Description
J. w. KUMMER. U CURTAIN FIXTURE. I APPLICATION FILED NOV. 4, 1908.
Pdtented' May 25, 1909.
s PAT I i osmium-sixteen.
To allwhom it may concern:
t known that I, JOHN W. KUMMER, a citizen of the Unlted States, residing at Gold I field, in the county of Esmeralda and State vide a device of this character which is entirely' automatic in operation; to furnish a curtain fixture which is simple 1n construction and arrangement, and may be operated with facility; and to provide means that will a replace the ordinary well known type of ourtam fixture and the appurtenant pawl and ratchet mechanism, and in this manner dispensejwith the irregularities with which one I is confronted when attempting to secure an adjustment of the curtain.
' To the accomplishment of the recited objects and others coordinate therewith, the preferred embodiment of my invention resides in that construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and embraced within' the scope of the appended claims.
In said drawings: Figure I is a front elevation of the curtain fixture embodying my invention and Fi II is an elevation of the same. F ig. III is a fragmentary longitudig nal sectional view of the auxiliary reel. Fig.
I" illustrates a blank of one of the sections of thereel. Fig. V is a detail perspective view of one of the reel sections just previous to itsapplication to the terminal of the curtain rod. Fig. VI is an end elevation of the curtain rod ,showing the position assumed by the reel. .Fig. VII is a transverse sectional view of the guide rod and cooperating runner clamp, and Fig. VIII is a detail perspective of the runner clamp.
Referring more particularly to the drawings for a detail description of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a wmdow frame which, is provided adjacent its upper end with the usual brackets (6) for supporting the curtain pole (7). On one of the distal ends of the curtain pole I mount what might be termed an auxiliary reel or drum which comprises a pan of members, each member presenting an annular flanged body portion (8) and diametrically disposed, integrally formed projections (9), which are designed to be flexed Specification of Letters Patent;
Patented May 25, 1909'.
' Application filed November 4,19%. Serial No. 461,022. 7
asro'have a portion thereof lie contiguous the outer side of the said body (8), the remaining portion being arranged at right angles thereto and having apertures (10) for the reception of any suitable. fastening means, such as 11. As clearly exhibited in Fig. VI of the drawings, the terminal of the curtain rod (7) is squared, as at 12, to form a convenient bearing for the proj ections (9) and at the same time preclude any rotary displacement of the sections, considered as an entirety, inde endent of the movement of the curtain ro This reel, as just described, is devised to accommodate a selvaged band (13), the outer extremital portion thereof being suitably fastened, as at 14, to the oblong slot (15) of the upwardly curved lip of the runner clamp (16) which has movement longitudinal of the guide rod (17), the latter being mounted upon the conoidal shaped supports. (18) which are in turn secured to the window frame (5) in any convenient manner. I
In operation, the clamp (16) is released from engagement with the rod (14) by an appropriate manipulation of the thumb screw (19) and, owing to the weight of the curtain (20), the same will gravitate to any desired position, this gravitation of the curtain being accelerated by providing a slightly heavier bottom cross rod at 21. Now when a reverse adjustment of the curtain is required it only becomes necessary to lower the clamp (16) along the rod (17). Subsequent each operation the thumb screw (19) is adjusted so as to maintain the curtain in proper relation to the window.
What I claim as new is 1. The combination with a roller and a curtain, of an auxiliary reel mounted on said roller, a guide rod, a runner clamp movable along the entire length of said guide rod and having a slotted lip, and a band carried by said reel and having connection with the slot in said lip.
2. The combination with a roller and a curtain, of an auxiliary reel comprising a pair of members constituting flanges, said members being provided with diametrically disposed, apertured attaching extensions bent upon said members and projecting laterally therefrom at right angles, a band ar-' ranged intermediate said members, and means for adjusting said band to raise or lower the curtain.
3. The combination with a roller and a curtain, of an auxiliary reel comprising a pair of members constituting flanges, said and means for adjusting said band to raise or 10 members being provided: with diametrically lower the curtain.
disposed, apertured attaching extensions In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my bent upon said members and projecting latsignature in presence of two Witnesses.
erally therefrom at right angles, said flanged members being arranged in spaced relation JOHN KUMMER' upon one terminal of the roller With their ap- Witnesses:
ertured attaching extensions in alternation, A. MACKENZIE,
a band arranged intermediate said members, RAY TWILEGAR.
