Description

UNITED STATES PATNT OFFICE.
SWING-ING CHAIR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 29, 1908.
Application filed May 5, 1908. Serial No. 431,044.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, NAPOLEON BURKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warren, in the county of Grafton and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Swinging Chair; and I do hereby declare the fol owing to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains'to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a reciprocating chair or swing, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which can be readily moved from place to place and which can be used as a chair or a swing.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective viewof the chair constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the chair. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken through the rear posts, the chair being removed.
Referring to the drawings, l and 2 designate the base members which are connected by a iioor or platform 3. Each of the base members is provided with front and rear posts 4 and 5 between which are arranged two smaller posts 6 and 7. On the upper end of these members is provided a rail or horizontal member 8. Between the two sides of this device is mounted a chair 9 which is connected to the frame by front and rear plates l0 which are pivotally connected 'i to the chair and to the frame, as clearly shown. rlhe rear post 5 is provided with a metallic brace 1l which is U -shaped, as shown, and which serves as a brace to relieve the strain on the sides. This brace is also reinforced by a similar brace 12 which is mounted on the exterior of the device. It will be seen that when a very heavy person is using the chair that these two braces will greatly relieve the strain on the wooden structure. It will be understood that this device can be formed of any suitable material and that the size, form and proportion may be varied as desired without departing from the spirit of this invention.
What I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A device of the class described, comprisin a skeleton frame, having skeleton vertic sides projecting upwardly from the base portion of said frame, said sides having front and rear posts, inner and outer U-shaped metallic braces extending transversely of said base portion and longitudinally of said rear posts, said braces being adapted to clamp said base portion and rear posts between them, a seat arranged between said sides, links pivotally connected with said sides and seat, bolts piercing the upper ends of said inner and outerl braces and forming a support for said links.
In testimony whereof 1 have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
