' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMYGDE J. AoHfiE, citizen of the United States, residing at Bayou Goula, in the parish of Iberville and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hydrocarbon-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention pertains to hydrocarbon burners; and it has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive burner of the type in which liquid fuel and fluid under pressure are commingled, and one which is efficient in operation and in which the parts are so constructed and assembled that they may be readily disconnected, when occasion demands, to facilitate cleaning or repairs.
lVith the foregoing in mind the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claim when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section of the burner constituting the best practical embodiment of my invention of which I am aware. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken in the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the outer side of the plug at the rear end of the burner. Fig. 1 is an elevation showing the forward end of the mixing chamber and the eduction orifices therein.
Similar letters designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
Referring to which: A is the body of the burner which is preferably cylindrical in form. The said body A is provided with a chamber B which extends throughout the greater part of its length, and in the forward end wall of the said chamber B is formed athreaded aperture a, while at the rear end of the body, which is open, an interior thread 6 is formed. The said thread 7) is for the engagement of a plug C, the outer portion of which is angular, as indicated by 0 in Fig. 3, and in which are formed two threaded apertures (Z and e, the aperture (Z being for the connection of a pipe (not shown) leading from a source of steam or other fluid-pressure supply, and the aperture 6 being for the connection of a pipe (not shown) leading from a liquid fuel source of supply. Turned into the threaded aperture (4 in the forward end of the body A is the reduced and threaded rear end f of the mixing chamber D. This chamber D is Specification of Letters Patent.

provided in its rear portion and wall f with a longitudinal central, smooth bore 9 and with a plurality of longitudinal passages h; the said passages 71. being grouped about the bore g, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. In its forward end wall the chamber D is provided with one or a plurality, preferably the latter, of eduction orifices z for the discharge of the commingled liquid fuel and steam.
As shown in Fig. 1, the inner end of the aperture 6 in plug C is reduced and smooth bored, and in the said reduced and smooth bored portion 6 is snugly fitted the rear end of a coil of pipe E, disposed in the manner illustrated in the chamber B or in any other manner consonant with the purpose of my invention. The said coil of pipe or tubing E terminates at its forward end in a longitudinal central and straight portion F which extends a considerable distance into and snugly fits within the longitudinal cen tral bore 9 in the rear end wall f of the mixing chamber D.
In the practical use of my novel burner, the fluid under pressure which I prefer to employ is, of course, steam, and it will be manifest that the steam will enter through the aperture (Z and occupy the chamber B, and will pass from the latter through the passages 7a and into the mixing chamber D. Incidental to its passage through the chamber 13, the steam will obviously heat the oilsupplied to the coil E through the aperture 6, and consequently the oil when discharged into the chamber D will be in a heated state and adapted to readily commingle with the steam. From the chamber D the commingled oil and steam pass through the eduction orifices 2', and at the forward end of the said chamber D the mixture is burned.
It will be readily gathered from the foregoing that without disturbing the coil of pipe E, the chamber D may be readily secured in the body A and as readily removed therefrom for the purpose of cleaning, this being due to the arrangement in the rear end wall of the chamber of the forward end portion of the coil E. It will also be gathered that when the chamber D is removed a cleaning instrument may be readily introduced into the forward end of the pipe E to clean the same, or else the pipe may be drawn forwardly out of engagement with the plug C, after which the plug C and the coiled pipe E may be readily withdrawn in the order named through the rear end of the body for the purpose of repair or cleaning. From this it follows that the parts of my novel burner may be expeditiously and easily assembled, and when deteriorated any one of the parts may be replaced with a new part without entailing the loss of the other and uninjured parts.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
A hydrocarbon burner comprising a body having a chamber and also having a thread ed aperture in the center of its forward end wall and a thread in its rear, open end, an exteriorly threaded nut arranged in the rear end of the body and having apertures for the passage of fluid under pressure and liquid fuel, respectively, the forward end of one of said apertures being smooth bored, a mixing chamber having a reduced and threaded portion arranged in the aperture in the forward wall of the body and also having a longitudinal central smooth bore in said portion and a plurality of longitudinal passages grouped about said bore and further having an eduction orifice in its forward end wall, and a coil of pipe positioned in the chamber of the body and having a smooth rear end portion removably arranged in the smooth bore portion of the aperture in the plug and also having a longitudinal central smooth forward end portion removably arranged in the longitudinal central bore of the mixing chamber.
