PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN G. ADAMS, OF NEAR PLAIN CITY, OHIO.
DUST-REGEPTAGLE.
No. sooner.
Specification Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 29, 1908.
Application filed June 9, 1906. Serial No. 321,052.
To all wliom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN G. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residin near Plain City, in the county of Union an State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dust-Receptacles, of which the following is a s ecification. My invention re ates to dust receptacles,
' and its primary object is to rovide a device quickly vide a device of the character stated from which the sweepings may readily andquickl be moved, which 1s simple, durable and-cf ficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With the above and other objects in,
the invention consists in the construction,
combination and arrangement of parts herelnafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying d i g wherein: Figure 1 is apers ective tion therethrough;
Referring to the drawing reference numerals, 2 designates the front,- 2 the side and 3 the rear walls of an open e'nded receptacle.. The receptacle is a aptedto belet through an=opemng n a floor to-positionit upper 0 on end or entranceingalinement therewit ,wherebythe swee. in'gs ofla room may readily .andzquicklyflheg 'rected 'thereinl i I The rear wall 3 isconi inne'd upwardja'bove the front and Side-. walls 2 and, 2, re-
7 spect ively, and thence. horizo'ritallyv inthe direction of. the'front wall .to' provide ahood '3, which overhangsthe entrance to the receptacle and directs the sweepings therein. The horizontal portion of'thehopd3 is u orted and bracedby side flanges 3 The 'rontedges of the flanges 3 are-inclined rearwardly and, downwardly to leave {the upper end of the receptacle 'openat its front and sides; It shouldbe thus apparent that the hood 1, isiofsuchconstruction that it will not interfere with thedirecting of the sweepings intoj the' receptacle,land" that it will de- 7 fleet the streppingstherein,v
view of a dust re fl ceptacle constructs in .accordancew'i'th my r mvention, and Fig. 21s a vertical central sec;
Ahorizontally disposed flange 4, which is secured to the upper edges of the front'and side walls of the receptacle, is adapted to be let into the floor to support the receptacle in applied position. A coverf5 is hingedl secured to the horizontal portionfof the ood 3, as at 6, and is adaptedto fully close the entrance to the receptacle.-v arm 7 is secured to and projects laterally from one end ofthe cover 5 and provides means by which the cover may be swung into opened position. The covermay be swung'into opened position by exerting an upward ressure upon the arm 7 by means of the oot. If found 'desirable, however, a chain may be provided for iraising the cover, and in this 'm'stanceone end of the chain should be secured to the arm and its other end secured at an elevationrtoiada t it to. be readily and qu k y l., sP front an rear walls. of the receptacle are formed to provide inwardly directed and horizontally disposed flanges 8,-upon which the closure 9 to'be removed and ap lied, the lower portion of, one of the side wa ls .ofthe Figfl of-the drawing,
From he. foregoin dose the construction and modetof operation of within the S00 e of the claims'withoutde- Havin'g fu 1y described and illustrated myinvention, what I claim is: v
A device of this'jharacter described coniprising a receptacle open at top and bottom and provided at its upper end around its front and sides with outwardly extending supporting flanges and at its lower end with inwardly extending front and rear flanges, a hood partiallyoverhanging the open top of the receptacle and embodying a to wall, a back wall integral with the rear wal of the receptacle body and triangular sidewalls having their front ed es inclining downwardly and rearwardly rom the forward "edge of said top he lower ends of the aclosure 9 is shdably'mounted. *T'oj permit receptacle i'scut away, as fully disclosed in I rites; are 1 'co'nnection with the accompanying drawing-14g s5 the invention should be understood without 1 [minordetails of construction may be made 1 '90 parting from t e spirit or sacrificing any of" theadvantages of the invention.
wall, an inclined cover plate pivoted at its upper edge tothe top of the hood and adapted to rest at its lower edge upon the front the lower end of the receptacle body for with sup orting flange, said cover being provided drawal at one sideof said body. 10 with triangular end walls to rest upon the In testimony whereof, I affix my signature side sup orting' flanges and against the inin presence of two witnesses.
