the units alike so t units.
My invention is an improvement in coops and consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of arts s will be hereinafter described and c aiinedlv 'In the drawings-Figure l is atop -plan view, and Fig. 2 is a side view of a coop embodyingsmy invention. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the-coop. Fig; 4 is a cross section on about line'4-4 of Fig.v 1. Fi 5 is a detail pers ective view ofone endo one of the ig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the other end of'a meetin unit, and Fig. 7 is a cross section on aboutIine 7--7of Fig. ,16
By my'invention I provide a coop or crate which may be made o one ormore unitsia'nid-rv in which units may be added to increase ca acity of the coop to any desired practif ca le extent, and in lpractice I; prefer toinalge at they can 'be readily added and 4 removed and so repairs Vcan be' readily effected Whenever required.
As shown I construct the units of the coop or crate each, 'see Figs. 4, 5V and 6, with a bottom A, sides B and a top C, and the sides and top may preferably be in the form of Jframes having any suitable foraminous cov-- ering as illustrated at D in Figs. 1,2, 5 and 6. The coop or crate alsohas end sections E which may be applied totheopposite endsof the same unit w en a coop composed of a single unit or section is employedvor may be arran ed at theends of the' coop when composed of several units, and these ends E may also be provided with the foraininous covers such as shown at D. Each coop or crate unit has its sections` rovided at one end with the intermediate oops F `and the side loops G and' as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 it may be preferred .to provide the interme- 'diate loops on the ends of the top and bottom sections C and A adjacent to the side G on the adjacent ends of the corres onding sidesections B, so the loops F of t e top and bottomsections, at the juncture of one unit with another may fit between the side loops G of a meeting section and the intermediate loops F of the sides B of said meeting section may fit between the side Specification of Letters Patent..v
loops G on the side sections of the first named unit as will be understood from Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings. The loops F and G' are provided at the ends of the sections A, B and C and the sides of these sections are provided with corresponding intermediate loops f and side loops g, see Figs. 1, 2, 5 and 6 and the registering loo s F and G and and g are se. cured by pint e rods arrange as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 ofthe drawings. The pintle rods I for uniting the loops g and f pass through their registering loops and are provided at one end with eyes i through which eyes are passed the upright rods J havin at t eir upper ends eyes y', rods 'J being bent at J', see Fig. 3 to forni feet upon which th'e coop oi crate may rest. These rods J also pass through eyes k at the ends of transverse rods K so the rods J when applied as shown in Fig. 3 and bent at their lower ,ends will operate to secu-rethe units of the coop vtogether as desired, and may Abe withdrawn by straightening out their bent ends Jj, which units may then be collapsed andseparated if desired. I thus provide the transverse rods K, the Alongitudinal rods I and the uprightl rods lJ passing through their coop when the units are connectedas shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and also operating to secure theends E of the' coop, whether such endsh the lower ends o the respective coincident loops, at theineeting ends of the units and operating to secure the rods K are also provided with the eyes 7c at l one end only, this sufiicing'to secure 4the A parts when the'u right rods J are applied and secured as be ore described.
The top section C has an intermediate removable portion C in the form of a door and having at its ends loops C2 which are secured by the longitudinal rods. portion C may be released at one side and turned on its opposite loop Czas a hinge, thus forming a large door when it is desired to small opening C? and a hinged spring actuateddoor C4 controlling the small opening hingedat one side at C and actuated by the This intermediate i have free access to the interiorof the coop or crate. This removable portion .C -has a j spring C7 normally te closed position. rThis door C4 is useful when it is desired to simply provide a hand opening through which a chicken or any article, may be placed inte er removed from the coop er crate..
The coop er crate may be manufactured out et any suitable material, for instance, as weed7 sheet metal or Wire mesh.
I claiml. The in'iprevernent in coops or crates herein descri ed comprising a series el units each composed of top, bottom and side sections provided at their side edges with registering loops and having the ends of each section provided with loops registering with loops et the ends of the corresponding sectien of a meeting unit, longitudinal wires passing through the loops at the sides of the sections, transverse reds passing through the registering loops atthe meeting ends of the tops and bottoms el meeting units, said transverse and longitudinal rods havin@ coinci dent eyes at their ends and the upright rods passing through said coincident eyes and through the loops at the meeting ends of the side sections 'ol the adjacent units, substantially as andfer the purpose set forth.
2. A coop or crate comprising a section having betteln, top and side portions having at their side edges coincident loops and longitudinal rods extending through. the same and provided at their ends with eyes, the sides, top and bottom portions being also provided With loops. and a see-tien abutting said i'irst section and having corresponding tep and side loops, a transverse rod provided at its ends with eyes registering with the eyes soeces in the longitudinal rods and upright rods passing through the said eyes, substantially as set forth.
3. A coop er crate provided at its ends with loops and at the juncture of its sides, top and bottom with registering loops, transverse reds passing through the top and bottorn loops and longitudinal reds passing through the side loops, said transverse and longitudinal rods having registering er coineident end eyes, and upright rods passing through the registering or coincident eyes oi: the transverse. and longitudinal rods, sul)- stantially as set forth.
4. A coop er crate having a top section provided with an intermediate portion forniing a deer and having an opening and a door controlling said opening, such intermediate portion in connection with said top section being provided at'its ends with loops and longitudinal rods passing through said loops for securing the intermediate portion suhstantially as set forth.
5. A coop having sections provided with registered loops, reds passed through their respective registered loops and arranged at right angles te each other and having at their ends coincident loops and rods passed through said coincident loops' and also through alined registered loops en the sections, all substantially and for the purposes set forth.
