Description
PATENTED MAY 12, 1.908.
D. L. JONES. DETAGHABLE POCKET.
APPLICATION FILED DEO.20, 1907.
DAVIS L. JONES, OF NIAYTON, MISSISSIPPI.
DETACHAB LE POCKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1908.
Application led December 20, 1907. Serial No. 407,324.
T o all whom it lmay Concern.' l
Be it known that I, DAVIS L. JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mayton, in the county of Rankin and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Detachable Pocket, of which the following is a speci- 'lieatioir rThis invention relates to detachable pockets for trousers especially adapted to be used by workmen, the object being to provide a pocket which can be readily slipped within an ordinary hip pocket of the trou sers, so as to prevent the same from becominOj worn when carrying tools therein.
Another object of my invention is to provide a pocket which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction and one which is adapted to be supported by the belt in the poel-(et, it of course, being understood that it can be used 'without the belt when desired.
Another object of my invention is to overcome the difficulties now existing with trousers as the pockets soon become worn out and useless and bothersome as when things are placed therein they are lost.
'I'hese objects are obtained b v the novel arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter' fully described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l., is a perspective view of a pair of trousers and belt showing the application of my improved pocket, one of the pockets being removed from the hip pocket of the trousers. Fig. 2, is a vertical section through the pocket and belt.
In the drawings A, indicates a pair of trousers provided with belt straps in which is arranged a belt B. The trousers being provided with an ordinary hip pocket C, in which my improved detachable pockets D, are adapted to be arranged.
The pockets I), are formed of a single piece of material such as heavy cloth or leather, one end of which is folded back upon itself, the edges over-lapping the edges of the main portion of the cloth and are secured thereto by rows of stitching which forms a pocket as clearly shown.
A pair of spaced parallel slots is formed in the main portion of the cloth above the pocket forming laps D', through which the belt is adapted to pass and it will be seen that by can be readily replaced by new ones thereby overcoming the ditlieulties of having to have new pockets put in the trousers which is the case with the trousers now in use by workmen.l
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a detachable .pocket which is simple and cheap in construction and one which is effective in use as heavy tools can be readily carried therein without drawing the trousers downward.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is'.
l. A detachable pocket for trousers comprising a piece of material having one end portion folded upon itself, the edges of the folded back portion overlapping the edges of the main portion of the cloth and secured thereto by rows of stitching to form a pocket, the main portion of the material being provided with spaced parallel slits forming straps adapted to be arranged on a belt for supporting said pocket within the pocket of an ordinary pair of trousers.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a detachable pocket for trousers comprising a single piece of material, folded back upon itself, to one side of its longitudinal center, forming an upwardly extending portion, the edges of the folded back portion, overlapping the edges of the main portion, and stitched thereto, to form a pocket, said upwardly projecting portion being provided with a pair of spaced parallel slits forming straps adapted to receive a belt for supporting said pocket within the pocket of the trousers.
In testimtmy whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVIS L. JONES.
