No. 853,707. Specification of Letters Patent Eatented May 14;, 1907.
ylication filed May 31,1905. Serial No. 263.106;
1 To all whom/ it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Alumni MAso/inAN'r, a citizen of the United States, resid1ng at M inneapolis, itlennepin county, Minnesota, have invented certain new and usefullin urovements in Pump-Cranks, of which the lollow mgrls a spec fication.
he ob ect of my invention 1S to provlde fora continuous and full flow of water through the pump, the velocityof the How being such that the water will not perceptihly decrease in Volume on the down stroke of the plunger.
Myinvention consists generally in various I constructions and wmhinations, all as hereinalter descrihedand particularly pointed out'in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings hirming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the upper portion of a pump stand- 2o ar'd with my invention mounted tllOlGOIl.
Fig. 2 is a rearview of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view illustrating. a II'lOLll'flOLl construc 'tion. Fig. 4 is a detail view illustrating the antifriction guides for the plunger rdd. Fig.
5 is a detail sectional view showing a method of applying power to the device.
In the drawing, --l"re resents a suitable frame mounted upon the upper end of the ordinary pump standard, 2 the'collar for a 3, compound drive attachment, and 25 hearings wherein a shaft 4 is mounted. A hand wheel 5 is mounted on the shaft at and provided with a suitable counterbalance 5 located, as .shown in Fig. 2, between the spokes oi the A crank disk 6 is mounted on the inner end of the shaft 41, and provided with a crank pin 7 having an antilriction roller 55. A block 9 is secured on a plunger rod 10 which is vertically slidahle hetweci'l antilric- 4 tion guide rollers 11 provided on an oven hanging arm of the frame 1; A ring 12 is coiled about the upper portiono'l t in plunger 10 between the frame and an adjustable collar 13 on said pl un er. 'lhe plunger is preh erahly flat and its lower end is pivotally con nected to a coupling 14 that mounted on the upper cndof thepump rod. A transverse horizontal slot 14 is provided in the block 9 wherein thd antil'riction roller 8 is 5 adapted to slide when the apparatus is in use:
in. Fig. 3'1 have shown a slightly modified construction for use where there is a large volume of water to be raised, consisting of an arm 16 secured to the collar 2. mounted on the end of the shaft 4 and meshes with a pinion 18 on a stud 19 which is secured to the arm 16 and carries the hand Wheel 5 when the compound gear mechanism is employed the munterhalance on the hand wheel is emitted.
F or a power drive, I prefer to provide the apparatus shown in Fig. 5, which consists in mounting; a worm wheel 2Q on the shaft 4 in position to er igage a worm 21 which is connected to an engine (not shown) by the coupling 22; l
I claim as mydnvention:
1. The combination wi'tha pump cylinder and its piston rod, of .a frame mounted on said cylinder, a shaft journaled in said frame and provided with a Wheel having a counterbalance integrally formed thereon, a crank disk secured on said sh aft, a crank pin mounted in said disk, :1 ilunger rod connected with the upper end cl said piston, rod, .a guide A gear 17 is tl-ierefor, a block secured on said plunger rod I and having a transverse slot to receive said crank pin, pins mounted in the face oi said block and adapted to contact with the face of said disk in the mutation of the latter, a spring mounted on said plunger rod and put under tension by the dc :iression of said pump rod to aid said couoterl ialance in raising the rod on the up stroke of the pump, and an. adjustable collar on said ..-lunger rod for regulating the tension ofsaic spring, the weight on the wheel heing so located thereon as to be raised as the spring is compressed and to co act with the spring in raising the pump rod substantially as described.
2. The combination with a pump c i ader and its piston rod, of a frame mounted on said cylinder, a shaft journaled in said, frame and provided with a wheel, a crank disk mounted on said shalt, a crank pin carried by said disk, a plunger'rod connected with the upper end of said piston rod, a guide therefor, a block secured to said plunger and having a horizontal slot to receive said In tvstimony \viivi'vui l haw signmi my block and adapted 10(011i2l0i with the fave of crank pin, pins mounted in the face of said 1 name to this spviiimtiun in tiw pi'vsvm'v 01' 10 two Slli)Sl'lli)lllf f \VHXIRSSL'S.
. i AQBRAM MARUAUAN'I. and 1L spring mounted on said plunger rod said disk during the npmn tion of the pump, i i and put under tension by the depression of 'itnosscs:
said rod to aid in raising it on the up stroke ELIJAII BLQOM, of the pump, suhstnntmliy as described. 3 Anvil) J. 501.0.
