The part 12 of the ring 9- may be sweated of the body of the trap or see use of solder, as may be desired. The application of the solder 19 is not absolutely necessary, but may be employed to give the plumber an opportunity to wipe the joint.
The construction shown in Fig. 4 is substantially the same in all essential features as that shown in the other views, the only difference being that the depending part 5* ol' the S-trap B takes the place of the body 5 of the trap in the other views.
It may be stated that in my improved construction it is comparatively easy to unscrew the cap, because there is but little friction between the edged part andthe soft- =metal part, due to the fact that the surface engagement of the two parts is very slight.
In Fig. 6 I have shown the ring Qwith two separated edges (designated 9.) It may, un-
der some circumstances, be advisable to pro vide the edgedimember with two edges, as Sl10WT1 -'l[l this view. In thls event both edges would engage the soft-metal rin or washer 17. This would give additiona security against the possible leakage of gas or surrounding the opening in the latter, the
