Description

ANTHONY G. DAVIS, OF WATERTOWN, CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent No. 81,259, dated August 18, 1868.

@the Sxlgshule rsetteh tu in lgtse ettrs ntent mrt mating part nf tige tame.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY G. DAVIS, of Watertown, in the county of Litchfield, and Sta-te of Connecticut, have invented a. new and improved Umbrella-Runner; and I do herehydeclare that the following is a full and exact description of vthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to an improved construction of my umbrella-runner, patented March 10', 1868, and consists in inserting a cap into the head of the former, forthe purpose of increasing its strength, as will be fully describedhereinafter.` l
This runner is in all respects similar to the one patented by me, March 10, 1868, with the exception of a cap which is inserted into the head.
In the drawings, A represents the runner, and a the cap, which latter consists of a flanged ring, eut away at regular intervals, as shown,- thus leaving the projections a. These projections are bent at right angles to the ring, by which means a circleot` pendent ears are made, corresponding in position with the series of openings in the top of the head of therunncr. The ring of cap a fits snugly over the shank, and 'when in place, the ears a pass'int'o the openings in the head. The two may then be soldered together if desired.
The cap a may be placed over the head of the runner, if desired, and he attached iu that position.
By this improved construction, the strength and durability of therunner are much increased, as the cap furnishes a strong support at the weakest point. I i
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cap a, constructed as explained, in combination with runner A, substantially as and for the purpose described.
This specication signed and witnessed, this twenty-eighthday of May, 1868.
ANTHONY G. DAVIS.
