DELO SS L. MAIN, OF BROOKLYN, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 81,518, dated August 25, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN UHURN.
* TO WHOM'IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, DELoss L. MAIN, of Brooklyn, in the county of Jackson, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chums; and Ido declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and beinga part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a representation of my chnrn-dasher.
Figure 2 a view of my churn, ready for use.
The same letters refer to like parts in each figure.
The object of this invention is to render the labor of churning much easier than when the ordinary dasher is used; to so construct a dasher o'r agitator of the cream, that it will cause the greatest agitation thereof with a requirement of but little power; that will be cheap in construction, and effieient in operation.
In order to attain this object, I construct a churn, A, conical in form, provided with a vertical dashershaft, B, the lower end of which is properly stepped into the bottom, 0, of the churn. Rigidly attached to this shaft B are the perforated wings D, which work inside the churn A, and to which a rapid vibrating motion is given by means of the crank E, which is rigidly attached near the top of the. dasher-shaft, the upper end of which is held in position by the bearing F, which projects from the standard Gr. Upon the top of this standard is hung the driving-gear wheel H, which engages with geared pinion I, upon the shaft of which is rigidly attached the crank-wheel J, which is attached to the crank E by a. proper connecting-rod, K, the whole being operated by the hand-crank L.
. ,What I claim as my'invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the-churn A, dasher-shaft B, perforated wings D, crank E, hearing F, standard G,
driving-wheel H, pinion I, crank wheel J, connecting-rod K, and handcrank'L, when constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
