GvllNED RSSCUT AND RIP SAW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
.application leil June 26,1905. Serial No. 267,095.
Be it known that l., Funnnnioii A. Wens'r,
a citizen ol the United States, residing at Lawrenceburg, in the counttv ol Vlearborn and State ol indiana, have invented eertaui new and usel'ul lmprovements in a tombined Urossout and ltip Saw;
following to be a lull, elear, and exact deseription ol the invent ion, such as will enable in the art to whieh it apperi others skilled talus to make and use the same.
This invention relates to ombined crosscut and rip saws; and one ol' the prineipal objects ol the same is to provide a combined and l do declare the crosscut and rip saw with means lor quickly and rigidl)Y seen ring a handle in adjusted position upon a blade having teeth upon opposite edges thereol' in order that either edge ol the saw-blade may be used atwill.
Another object is to pro saw of the character rel'erred to in which the handle therefor Ina)y be swung upon its pivot to one side or the other ol' the blade and to be lirmly held in adjusted position thereon by means ot simple devices -which can be quickly and lirmly secured to .the blade.
'l" se and other obiects are attained by the construction Villustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whit-.les-
Figure l is a plan view of a saw made in aevidea combined cordanoe with my invention, and,l"ig. .1 .is a
longitudinal 'section through the handle end of the saw and through the handle.
llei'erring to the drawings lor a more particular description ol my invention, the numeral l designates the sa\.'-blade, provided with teeth .2 upon one edge, said teeth being of the, orosscut type, said blade having upon its opposite edge teeth o xoses. A hole or aperture lor rip-saw purat one ol the ends of the blade is used lor sisiiending the saw g from a nailor hook. 'l`he handle 5 ol the saw is provided with a slot' l5 at its inner end, su id slot providing the two-members 7 and S between which the blade. l is `adapted secured, 'l`be handle :3 is pivoted upon the blade 1 by means olf the screw or pin E), which passes through one member ol' the handle, through the blade, and into the opposite member ol said handle. The sawblade is provided with a curved slot l0 near its outer ,bolt inthe socket, lo be f a 1 i i l l i i liust the handle `teeth upon the opposite dle is a threaded bolt 11, provided with a head 12, which bears against the side of the blade 1 ol' the saw. Upon the end ofthe bolt 11 is a `ving-nut 13, adapted to bear upon the side ol" the member 7 ot the saw-handle and clamp the blade in adjusted position, as will be readilyunderstood. Within the opening 15, in which the head l2 is seated, a wooden plug 14 is seated, said plug adapted to bear against the. head ll of the threaded bolt, the outer end of said plug being beveled, as at 15. Seated upon the beveled end of said plug is the brass or other headfl, which is Countersunk within the handle of the saw.
The operation ol' my invention may be described as l'ollows: When it is desired to adrelatively to the saw-blade, the wing-nut is loosened and the handle is swung irom one side to the other, depending upon which set ol the saw-teeth it is desired to be used. Said wing-nut is then tightened upon the bolt tol hold the handle in adjusted position.
llaving thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent., is-
'lhe hereindeseribed combined erossout and rip saw comprising a blade, having eross cut teeth upon one edge thereof, rip-saw edge thereof, one end ol said blade heilig curved, a Curved slot l() near said end, a handle connected at its outer end to the blade by a single pivot, t), and providedwith a slot ti in which the blade is secured, a transverse bolt passing through the handle, and through the slot 1t) in the blade and provided with a head 1st which bears at one side against said blade and is seated in a socket in one side olE the. handle, a wing-nut adjustable on the threaded end of the holt, and a plug 1l) for covering the head ot the substantially as described.
ln testimony whereof I have hereuntoset my hand inprese-nee ol two subsoribing wit- FREDERICK A. WUEST Witnesses JouN LinMAN'rEL, -llvnnnrr E. SLATER.
