Description
PATENTED DEC. 5, 1905.

. TOY.
APPLICATION rum) mum, 1905.
' UNITED STATES PATENT orrron.
JOHN W. HUGHES,- OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
' TOY.
Patented. Dec. 5, 1905.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it-known that 1, JOHN W. HUGHES, a citizen of the United States,-residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is for an improved toy. The object of the invention is to provide a toy I which will amuse by providing scope for skill and dexterity in manipulating the toy to accomplish a-desired object.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the toy in an upright position. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same in the same position. Fig. 3 is a side view of the toy in a horizontal position.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a small glass bottle and having formed thereon at the bottom a cup-shaped net 2, open at the top. Into the stopper 3 of said bottle is driven a peg 4:. Within the bottle are placed a small numberof small disk-like objects 5, slightly heavier than water, which 7 objects may be conveniently termed fishes,
and also a small number of rings 6 of slightly less specific gravity than-water. The bottle is then filled with water and the stopper inserted. 3
The object of the toy is to so manipulate the bottle as to inclose all of the fishes 5 in the net 2 at the bottom of the bottle and at the same time to capture all of the rings 6 upon the peg 4: in the stopper at the top of the bottle. H I
' If a slower motion is desired, the bottle may be filled with glycerin instead of water,
and thefishes and rings will be made of specific gravity suitable for this liquid.
This toy furnishes scope for the exercise of skill in the manipulating of the bottle so as to secure both the fishes and rings at the same time, especially as it requires the attention to be rapidly directed first to one end of the bottle and then to the other.
I claim 1. A toy comprising a vessel containing liquid, a stationary device at each end of the yessel, and two groups. of objects therein, those ofone group being adapted to be retained by the stationary object at one end of the bottle and those of the other group by that at the other end, and the objects of one group being slightly heavier'and of the other slightly lighter. than the liquid, substantially as described. 2. Atoy comprisinga bottle, a stopper therefor, two devices therein, one secured to the bottom of the bottle and the other to the stopper, and two groups of objects in the bottle, the objects of one group being adapted to be retained by thedevice at the bottom of the bottle and those of the other group by that on the'stopper, said'objects of one group being heavler and of the other group lighter than the liquid, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN W. HUGHES.
