\lATllEW VAN BOXEL, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSTGNOR OF SIXTYFIVE ONlC-HUNDREDTHS TO GEORGE BONER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
WlNDOW-SHADE AND CURTAIN HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 787,239, dated April 11, 1905.
Application filed January 14, 1905. Serial No. 241,015.
To z l/ It'll NHL if 'III/HI/ concern.-
Be it known that l, Ma'runw VAN Bo.\'1-1r.,a :itizen of the United States, and a resident of 1 dow-sash. Through the slot in the lower edge Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \\"indow-Shade and Curtain Hangers, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in adj ustable curtain and window-shade fixtures; and the specific objects of the invention are to provide a combined attachment for windowshades and curtains in which all parts are interchangeable and reversible and by means of which the window-shades can be hung either upon the window-frame or inside the frame and can be adjust-ably placed thereon, so that one attachment can be made to accommodate a large number of shades of varying sizes and a shade taken from another window of a different size can readily be hung by proper adj ustment of the attachments.
The invention consists in the longitudinally recessed and slotted plate, adapted to be affixed to the windowf ame and in the forms of interchangeable hangers for curtains and shades movably secured thereto, as hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention attached to a \virulow-frame and showing a shade-roller attached inside the frameand showing means for attaching a longer roller-outside of the frame. The curtain-pole supports are also shown in their place. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the device on the line of one of the shadehangers. Fig. T is a similar section on line of one of the curtain-hangers. Fig. 5 is a detail of hanger.
ln the views, 1 is an elongated plate having a raised central portion extending nearly to each end thereof, 2 is a longitudinal slot in the front face of this plate, and 3 is a similar slot in the lower edge of the raised portion. This the window-frame.
plate is attached to the window-frame in such 5 a manner as to permit one end to pro ect for some distance inside the frame over the winof this plate projects the shade- hangers 4 and 5, one of which. a, turns outwardly over the frame and is designed to hold one end of a long shade-roller. The other, 5, is turned inwardly at the inner side of the frame and is designed to hold one end of a shorter shaderoller, which must be mounted entirely within A correspondingly-slotted plate and shade-hangers reversed in position are placed upon the opposite side of the frame and one pair of hangers is slotted at 6 for the insertion of the flat end of the rollerpin. while the opposite pair of hangers are provided with pivot-opening for the insertion of the round pin in the roller.
These hangers are all, as stated, inserted through the slots in the lower edge of each 7 plate, and a screw-threzuled rod 7, secured in each hanger at right angles to the upper extremity, passes through the central slot in the face of each plate. A thumb-nut 8 for each threaded pin permits each hanger to be tightly 7 5 secured to the plate, and when this nut is loosened the hanger can be moved from end to end of the slot, thus giving a wide range of adjustment thereto sufficient to accommodate a roller of any common width. At each end of the plate a vertical slot 9 is made in each edge and a curved support 10 is inserted, upon which the curtain-pole can be placed, there being two of these plates and hangers 10. Many sizes of curtains can be provided for. 5
Having described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination with a longitudinally recessed plate provided with a raised center, 9 and longitudinal slots in its face and lower edge, of shade-roller hangers movably secured to said plate in said slots, one of said hangers projecting forwardly and the other projecting rearwardly, substantially as described.
2. An adjustable wiiulow-shade hanger consisting of in combination, a plate longitudinally recessed and provided with a longitudinal slot in its front face, and a similar slot in its lower edge, of shaderoller hangers, inserted in the lower slot, a screw-threaded pin in each hanger projecting through said slot in the face of the plate, and a thumb-nut upon each pin, one of said hangers projecting forwardly and the other hanger rearwardly, substantiall y as described.
3. In combination with a window-frame, a plate on each side thereof, each plate being longitudinally recessed and having a longitudinal slot in its face, and a similar slot in its lower edge, a hanger in each plate movably secured in said slots, and located over the window-frarne, and turned outwardly at its lower edge, and a hanger in each plate movably secured in said slots, and located inside of the frame, and turned inwardly at its lower end, substantially as described.
