PATENT OEEIcE.
PLATFORM FOR STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 769,871, dated September 13, 1904.
Application filed January 22, 1904. Serial No. 190,156. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID MoIvER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carthage, in the county of Moore and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Platforms for Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to protectors from fire from stoves and at the same time has in view several other matters of serviceability.
It is the object of the invention to provide a platform or raised base upon which the stove may stand, the said platform and its surroundings being made fireproof from live coals or the like which are liable to drop or to be raked out of the stove and fall upon the surrounding surfaces of the fioor or stove supports or frames, the object also being to provide means whereby the ashes and offal from and around the stove may readily be cleaned away.
The invention consists of a raised platform of cast-iron or sheet metal, or it may be wood covered with sheet metal, of suitable form and size, said platform comprising a supporting-section and a surrounding trough to catch the burning cinders or coals and ashes, so that they can readily be swept or brushed to a suitable outlet, where they can easily be taken up in a pan or other suitable device,
all as will be fully set forth hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the annexed drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification, the same letters indicating the same parts or features, as the case may be, wherever they occur.
Of the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
In the drawings, a designates a raised section upon which it is designed the stove shall stand. The stove will rest upon legs, as usual, so that it will be easy for the housemaid to brush or wipe thereunder. This platform, as
also the surrounding means, will be made of cast metal or sheet metal or wood covered with sheet metal, so as to make it fireproof against live coals falling from the stove thereon.
bdesignates a trough of suitable size and form. It is apparent that all of the ashes and cinders falling upon the platform may be brushed into the groove, and from thence they can easily be brushed around and out of the gate a, formed in the outer flange of the groove, into a dust-pan or other receptacle. As the stove will stand on legs and be raised above the platform, it will be easy to scrub the latter, and any Water running off the same may be wiped around out of the gate 0 and the entire device easily kept clean.
The base of the entire device may be provided with suitable legs, much as in the case of a stove, so as not only to raise the stove to a convenient height, but permit it to be cleaned thereunder. The whole device may be, as stated, of metal or sheet-metal covering and be made neat in form, so as not only to be a fireproof safety device, but be very serviceable in point of cleanliness and render easy the matter of keeping the stove and its surroundings in order.
It will be noted that the invention is capable of ornamentation and changes in form without departing from the nature or spirit of the improvement.
Having thus described my invention and the ways in which it may be carried into effect, I declare that what I claim as my invention is- A platform for stoves, comprising a supporting-section and a surrounding trough, formed with a gate in its outer side, said supporting-section being raised with respect to said trough, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
