Be it known that I, WALTER S. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

My invention relates to a curtain-fixture especially adapted for the curtains of streetcar windows; and it consists, briefly stated, in a pair of shoes or blocks that operate in guideways formed in the window-posts and means for engaging said shoes or blocks to I retain the curtain at any desired elevation.

The invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

Figure I is an elevation, partly in section, of a curtain provided with my improved fixture applied to a window. Fig. II is a vertical section taken approximately on line II II, Fig. I. Fig. III is a horizontal section taken on line III III, Fig. I.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, 1 1 indicate the window-posts, in the innerfaces of which are formed the 2. Arranged in these guideways or grooves 2 is a pair of guide or retaining cords 3, each pair being fixed attheir ends by means of screws 4 or in any suitable manner.

5 indicates the curtain positioned in the usual manner in the window-opening between the posts and provided adjacent its lower edge with a longitudinally-extending tubular rod 6, the ends of which terminate at the edges of the curtain. Rigidly seated in each end of this tubular rod 6 is the shank 7 of a rectangular plate 8, that extends slightly into each guideway or groove 2, and extending outwardly from the outer face of these plates 8 and near each end thereof are the pins 9, that carry a rectangular shoe or bearing-plate 10, that bears directly against the inner face of the guideway or groove 2. The guide or retaining cords 3 in each groove 2 pass between (N0 model.)

l the plate 8 and the shoe or plate 10 in said groove, and said cords cross or pass one another between the pins 9. (See Fig. II.) The cords 3, being drawn taut when put in position, engage with more or less friction against the pins 9 and against the plates 8 and 10, and this frictional engagement is sufficient to retain the curtain at any desired elevation, it being only necessary to manually engage the lower edge of the curtain and move it upwardly or downwardly, as desired. The cords 3, in addition to engaging the fixture to hold it at any desired elevation, prevents the ends of the fixture from becoming disengaged from the curtain guideways or grooves 2.

A curtain-fixture of my improved construction is very simple, inexpensive, has a minimum number of parts, can be easily repaired, and will readily withstand the rough usage and jerking to which curtains are often subjected and will not readily become broken or get out of repair.

I claim 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with the window-posts having curtain-grooves therein, of a curtain, a tubular rod carried thereby, shoes carried by the ends of said tubular rod; a pair of pins projecting from each shoe, which shoes operate in the curtain-grooves of the window-posts, and a pair of cords arranged in each groove and engaging'said pins.

In a device of the class described, the combination with the window-posts having curtain-grooves therein, of a curtain, a pair of shoes carried by the sides of said curtain; a pair of pins projecting from each shoe which shoes operate in the curtain-grooves in the Window-posts, and retaining-cords positioned in said grooves and engaging said shoes, substantially as specified.

8. In a curtain-fixture, the combination with the windowposts having curtaingrooves therein, of a lower edge thereof, plates secured to the ends of said rod, a pair of pins projecting from each plate, a bearing-plate fixed to each pair l of pins; which bearingplates enter the curtaingrooves of the window-posts, and a pair of l cords arranged in each window-groove and passing between the plates and between the pins connecting said plates, substantially as specified.

4:. In a curtain-fixture, the combination with the window-posts, of a curtain, a rod carried-by the lower edge thereof, shoes carried by the ends thereof, a pair of pins projecting from each shoe and pairs of cords fixed to the window-posts at the edges of the curtain; which cords engage the pins, substantially as specified.

5. In a curtain-fixture, the combination with the windowposts having curtain-grooves therein, of a curtain, a rod carried by the lower edge thereof, plates secured to the ends of said rod, a pair of pins projecting fronr W. S. MILLER.
