PATENT OFFICE;
VICTOR K. KORJIBSKY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DEVICE FoR'oLE'ANmG'sTovEs. FURNACES, OR SIMILAR HEATERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,648, dated August 16, 1904.
Application filed February 1.0, 1904. Serial No. 192,909. (No model.)
enable those'skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved device. for removing ashes, cinders, and the like from stoves, furnaces,rand other heaters whereby the dust and dirt usually accompanying such operations is avoided; and
with this and other objects in view the inven tion consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which* Figure 1 is a sectional side view of the bottom portion of a stove or heater, showing the ash-pit and my improved device for removing ashes therefrom, the latter being also in section; Fig. 2, a sectional plan view of thebottom portion of the stove or heater, showing my improvement in full lines; and Fig. 3, a perspective view of a rake or scraper which I employ.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at a an ordinary heating-stove provided with the usual grate a and ash-pit a and in the practice of my invention I provide a device for removing ashes, cinders, and similar material from the ash-pit comprising a box Z1, having a removable cover 5 which consists of alslide held in place by longitudinal side keepers b 7 Y The removable cover 6 is provided with a central opening 6, with which is connected an elbow-pipe 0, having an elbow-pipe 0 provided with a flange 0 whereby it is riveted or otherwise secured to the cover 5 as shown at c, and the pipe 0 is provided at the opposite end with a tapered partition 0", adapted to be inserted into an opening (0* in the bottom portion of the stove a, which communicates with the ash-pit a and the tapered member 0 of the pipe 0 is pro-vided at its inner end with a depending lip 0 The opening (0* is provided with a hinged the elbow-pipe 0 thereof and is provided with a handle-piece c in the form of construction shown, and whenever it is desired to remove the ashes or other material from the ash-pit a the door (Z is raised and the tapered end of the pipe 0 is inserted thereinto, as shown in Fig. 1, and the ashes and other material f are drawn out through said pipe 0 and drop into the box 7). The tapered end 0 of the pipe 0 closely fits the opening (0*, and in the operation of cleaning the ash-pit (0 of dust, dirt, and similar substances such substances are retained in the pipe 0 and box 5, and after the ash-pit has beenthoroughly cleaned the boxb is drawn outwardly, so that the end of the pipe 0 is removed from the opening a". in the stove, and said opening is closed by the door (Z, and the box 6, with its attached parts, may be removed and emptied into any receptacle prepared therefor.
By means of my improvement a stove or similar heater may be thoroughly cleaned at any time without the distribution of dust or dirt in the apartment or room where said stove or heater is located, and it will be apparent that my improvement may be used in connection with any kind of a stove, range, or other heater.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1. A device for use in removing ashes and the like from the ash-pits of stoves, furnaces and the like, comprising a box having a cover I also provide a provided with an opening and an elbow-pipe connected with said cover and inclosing said opening and one end of which is tapered and adapted to be inserted into a hole in the wall of the ash-pit, substantially as shown and described.
2. A device for use in removing ashes and the like from the ash-pits of stoves, furnaces and the like, comprising a box having a cover provided with an opening and an elbow-pipe connected with said cover and inclosing said opening and one end of which is tapered and adapted to be inserted into a hole in the wall of the ash-pit, the cover of said box being removable, substantially. as shown and described.
3. A device for use in removing ashes from the ash-pit of a stove, furnace or the like, comprising a box having a cover provided with an opening and an elbow-pipe connected with said cover inclosing said opening and one end of which is tapered and adapted to be inserted into a hole in the wall of the ash-pit and a scraper provided with a handle which passes longitudinally through said pipe, substantially as shown and described.
4. The combination with a heater provided with an ash-pit in one side Wall of which is an opening provided with a door, of a device for use in removing the ashes from said ash-pit, comprising a box having a cover provided with an opening, an elbowpipe connected with said cover inclosing said opening and one end of which is tapered and adapted to be inserted into the opening in the wall of the ash-pit and a scraper provided with a handle which is passed through said pipe and projects through the elbow portion thereof, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 8th day of February, 1904.
VICTOR K. KORJIBSKY.
