PATENT OFFICE.
RE liflNANT-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 749,799, dated January 19, 1904.
Application filed September 30, 1903. Serial No. 175,211. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES ED MITCHEM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harvard, in the county of McHenry and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Remnant-Table, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to tables, and especially to that class of such devices which are employed for displaying goods in stores, and has for its objects to produce a device of this character of simple construction which will be eflicient in operation and one in which the accumulation of dust upon the top of the table is entirely obviated.
To these ends the invention comprises the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a table embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view illustrating the manner of securing the wires. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a table, the supporting-frame of which is composed of side bars 2 and end bars 3, sustained by legs 4:. These parts may be of the usual or any preferred construction, inasmuch as they constitute no part of my invention.v
In accordance with my invention I mount and secure in any suitable manner upon the supporting-frame a top comprising an open frame 5 and longitudinal and transverse fillerwires or elements 6 and 7, respectively,'which are intercrossed upon and secured to the frame 5, thus producing a fabric constituting an open-work filling for the frame and designed to sustain articles of merchandise placed upon the table for display.
The filling-wires 6 and 7 may be attached to the frame 5 in any suitable manner, but
preferably by forming through the side and or otherwise secured to screws or like fastening devices 12, engaged with the under face of the frame 5. The frame 5 is detachably secured to the table-frame in any suitable manner to permit its ready removal for repairing the open-work filling if circumstances require, and the fastening devices 12 are operable for regulating the tension of the wire strands composing the filling, for obvious reasons.
It is apparent that in practice the openwork fabric will properly support dry goods or the like placed upon the table and will at the same time obviate the accumulation of dust with attendant damaging of the goods.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I produce adevice of simple construction which will be eflicient in operation and one which is admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in view. It is to be understood, however, that I do not limit myself to the precise details herein set forth, inasmuch as minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- 1. In a table, a top comprising an open frame having perforations, intercrossed flexible elements threaded through the perforations and fastening devices engaged by said elements and operable for varying the tension of the latter.
2. In a table, a top comprising an open frame having perforations, intercrossed wires threaded through said perforations and fastening-screws engaged by said wires and operable for varying the tension of the latter.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. ED MITCHEM.
