To aaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE LESLIE WACK- EROW, aciiizen of the United States, residing atMellette,county ofSpinkand State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Strainers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a certain liquid-strainer for which Letters Patent of the United States, No. 719,913, were granted to me on the 3d day of February, 1903; and it pertains more especially, first, to the peculiar construction of the screen-inclosing case, which is formed in two separable parts connected together by a diagonallyformed flanged joint; second, to the construction' and arrangement of the inlet and outlet ducts, one in each of the separable parts of said case; third, to the peculiar manner of supporting the screen in the flangejoint between the two separable parts of the case and between the inlet and outlet ducts of the case; fourth, to the flexible connection by which one-of the separable parts of the case is adapted to be separated from the other without being detached from its supportingpipe, and, fifth, to the inlet-steam duct or port through which a jet of steam may be thrown upon the upper surface of the screen for the purpose of cleaning the same.
My invention is further explained by referenc to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a side View, and Fig. 2 a vertical section thereof.
Like parts are identified by the same reference-letters throughout both views.
The screen-inclosing case comprises the two separable parts A and B. The part A is provided with the inlet-duct C, and the partB is provided with the outlet-d uct D, and said parts are connected together by the flanges E E and bolts F, forming the diagonal joint G. The inlet-duct C is provided with a valve H, which is pivotally supported from the case A by the lugs I and hinge-bolt J.
K is an inlet-duct through which steam'is led when desirous to clean the screens P, steam being led to the duct K through an ordinary steam hose and nozzle, as indicated ter is discharged from the case.
in Fig. 2. When the nozzle is removed, the duct K is closed by the screw-plug L. The lower end of the screen-inclosing case M forms a settling-chamber for refuse matter which has been screened from the liquid as it passes from the inlet to the outlet duct. The chamber M is provided with an inlet-duct N, through which the accumulated refuse mat- When the screen is used, the duct N is closed by the plug or stopper'O. For convenience in removing one of said separable parts from the other I preferably connect the upper part B by a flexible duct R with the discharge-pipe. It will be understood that by this construction the user can readily gain access to the valve and screen for the purpose of inserting or repairing the same when the part B is removed. It is also obvious that by this construction the joint between the separable parts A and B serves the additional purpose of holding the screen securely in place without additional parts and that by providing said separable parts A and B with the diagonal joint the opposing inlet and outlet ducts are brought upon the respective sides of the screen and facilitate the construction oi the device, while the several interior parts are more readily accessible in case of repairs.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a liquid-strainer, the combination of a sereen-inclosing case comprising two separable parts secured together by a diagonally- .formed joint; 21 screen supported at its marginal edge by and between the contiguous edges of said separable parts; an inlet-duct located in one of said separable parts upon one side of said screen; an outlet-duct located in the other separable part of said case upon the opposite side of said screen and means for securing said separable parts together.
2. In a liquid-strainer, the combination of a screen-inclosing case comprising two separable parts secured together by a diagonallyformed joint; 2. screen supported at its marginal. edge by and between the contiguous edges of said separable parts; an inlet-duct located in one of said separable parts upon one side of said screen; an inwardly-opening check-valve located at the mouth of said inlet-duct; an outlet-duct located in the other separable part of said case upon the opposite side of said screen and means for securing said separable parts together.
3. In a liquid-strainer, the combination of a screen-inclosing case comprising two separable parts secured together by a diagonallyformed joint; a screen supported at its marginal edge by and between the contiguous edges of said separable parts; an inlet-duct and an inlet-steam port provided with a stopper located in one of said separable parts upon one side of said screen; an outlet-duct located in the other separable part of said case upon the opposite side of said screen and means for securing said separable parts together.
4:. In a liquid-strainer, the combination of a screen-inclosing case comprising two separable parts secured together by a diagonallyforrned joint; a screen supported at its marginal edge by and between the contiguous edges of said separable parts; an inlet-duct located in one of said separable parts upon one side of said screen; an inwardly-opening check-valve located at the mouth of said inlet-duct; an outlet-duct located in the other separable part of said case upon the opposite side of said screen and means for securing said separable parts together.
5. In a liquid-strainer, the combination of a screen-inclosing case comprising two separable parts secu red together bya diagonallyformed joint; a screen supported at its marginal edge by and between the contiguous edges of said separable parts; an inlet-duct located in one of said separable parts upon one side of said screen; an inwardly-opening check-valve located at the mouth of saidinlet-duct; an inlet-steam port provided with astopper; an outlet-duct located in the other separable part of said case upon the opposite side of said screen; means for securing said separable parts together and a flexible attachment for connecting the discharge side of said screen-inclosing case yieldingly with the discharge-pipe, all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
