Description

PATENTED SEPT. 22, 1903.
'0.1 C. BOHN. JOINT COVER OR KICK PLATE.
f I /fm/O/ZZZUZ: did. a/M/v'f.
. or ceilings.
UNITED STATES Patented September 22', 1905;.'
CHRISTIAN C. BOHN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
JOINT-COVER ORV KICK-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 739,282, dated September 22, 1903. Application filed February 21, 1903. Serial No. 144,478. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN C. BoHN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Joint- Covers or Kick-Plates, of which the following is a specification.
It is old in the art of installing conduits for electric circuits to place the conductingwire in wooden moldings fastened to the walls For the purpose of tire protection it is prohibited to run these moldings through partitions or walls, and it is compulsory to insulate eachindividual wire by means of reproof tubing, such as porcelain tubes, &c., and have these tubes protect the'conducting-wire when carried through walls, dac. In using the two insulating means, wooden moldings and fireproof tubing, it is necessary to provide means for covering and protecting the place of abutment of the same in order to prevent damage to the conduits, to protect the conducting-wire, and avoid the accumulation of dust, dirt, dto.
The object of the present invention is to provide simple and eiiicient means for accomplishing this purpose, and the nature of this invention is fully disclosed and described in the following specication and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view of the structure. Fig. 2 is a similar view, partially cut away. Fig. 3 is a horizontal crosssection in the plane of the top of the fireproof tubing. Fig.4 is a vertical cross-section of the device, showing one of the tubes in side view; and Fig. 5 is a perspective side View of the joint-cover proper, common-ly called a kick-plate. l
1, in Figs. 2 and 4., is the regular wooden molding, such as extensively used in wiring houses, dsc.
2 is the usual wooden strip for covering the wire after the same has been put in place. The molding is ordinarily nailed or screwed to the walls, and when the conducting-wire is to be carried through a wall, ceiling, dto., the molding is brought quite close to the corner formed by the wall and floor or wall and ceiling. Tubes 4, made of suitable tireproof insulating material-such as porcelain, vitreous material, ber, &c.-are used to carry the wire through these floors, partitions, &c. For the purpose of giving room for the tubes 4. the middle portion l0 of the molding l is suitably cut away, so that thev conducting-wire 3 may be carried directly from the grooves of the molding 1 into the hollow of the tubes ,4. A joint-cover or kickplate, Fig. 5, of metal, fiber, vitreous or other suitable material, is then placed about the recess in the molding l, containing the tubing 4t, so that its front 5 covers said recess and its sides 6 surround the side portions of the molding l. Suitable Ilanges or other means 7, provided with screw-holes 8, are used to fasten this joint-cover or kick-,plate 5 to one of the walls or partitions by means of screws 9 or nails, so that it may rest with one of its open sides against the other of the walls forming the corner with the first one.
This device so constructed is a very eicient protection for the end of the molding as well as for the tubing containing the conducting-wire. It is easily applied and removed. Different dimensions of the jointcover or kick-plate of course may be used as well as different material to construct the same according to different requirements without departing from the intended scope of the present invention.
What is claimed as new and useful, and desired to be protected by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination withamoldingcomprising a strip and partitions integral therewith forminglongitudinal outer channels, of individual iireproof conduits abutting with the channels of the molding,a kick-plate for covering the outer sides of the molding and the fireproof conduits at the abuttal of the channels and the conduits, and means for covering the channels and abutting with the upper ends of the kick-plate.
2. The combination with a molding having outer longitudinal channels, of conduits abutting with the channels, electrical conductors passing through the conduits and the channels, a kick-plate forming an integral struciny hand, in the presence of tWo subscribing ture surrounding the outer sides ofthe mold Witnesses, this 19th day of February, 1903. ing and. the abutting ends of the conduits and Y i the channels, means for covering the chanl Y ('HRISTIAN C BOHN 5 nels and means for securing the kick-plate to Witnesses:
the Wall. RALPH JULIAN SACHERs,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set RYL. WELLS.
