UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
CIIARLIE C. CECIL, OF ORAFINO, NEBRASKA.
FLOAT-VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 691 ,444, dated January 21, 1902. Application filed August 29, 1900. Serial No. 23,4 47; (N0 model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLIE G. CECIL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orafino, in the county of Frontier and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Float-Valves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved floatvalve designed for regulating the flow of water from a suitable source of supply toa tank or receiver or a watering-trough, the object in view being to provide a valve which is simple in construction, efficient in operation, and in which the parts are adapted to work freely and easily and without friction and liability of binding; and to this end it consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a cross-section through a watering-trough, showing the application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the valve, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents. a wateringtrough or tank of any well-known construc tion provided with a supply-pipe 2, leading from any suitable water-supply tank, pond, or other reservoir or from any source from which water flows.
The valve comprises in its construction an interiorly-threaded valve body or'coupling 3, which is screwed onto the end of the pipe 2. To opposite sides of the coupling 3 I provide bearings 4, to which are pivoted the branches of a forked lever 9. Between the outer ends of this lever is interposed a stem 10, carrying a float 11. The front of the coupling 3 is provided with an extension 5, to which is removably secured, by means of a screw, a swinging valve 6, made of leather or other suitable material. To the front face portion of the valve 6 I secure a block 7, which is provided with an inclined front face portion 13. Mounted between the branches of the lever 9 and adapted to rotate on a rod 15, secured to the opposite sides of said branches, is a roller 14, which travels upward or downward on the inclined face portion of the block 7 when the float is raised or lowered by means of the water flowing into or out of the tank. When the water flows into the tank and the 'float travels upward therewith, the valve is forced to its seat 8 by the pressure of the roller against the inclined face portion of the block. A chain 12 is secured to the branched lever atone end and is connected at its opposite end to the block 7 by means of a screw.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- In a float-valve, the combination with a valve-body adapted to be secured to a supplypipe, of a swinging valve, connected to said body and carrying a block with an inclined front face, a forked lever pivoted at the free ends of its branches to opposite sides of said valve-body, a float connected to the stem of said lever, a roller mounted in said-branches in position to engage the inclined face of the block, and a chain connecting said lever and block, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLIE C. CECIL.
