Be it known that I, IVAN S. PERKINS,aOitizen of the United States, residing at'David City, in the county of Butler and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Standards or Shanks for Cultivators, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shanks or standards for cultivators, the object being to provide a standard which is made in two parts, which parts are adjustable one with respect to the other at an angle, the lower memberof such standard being connected to a shovel or disk in such a manner as to throw the soil either to the right or left, the several adjustments providing for changing the lateral position of the cultivator disk or shovel and the angle thereof with respect to the line of draft.

This invention consists in the particular construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter set forth.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view of a typical wheeled cultivator, showing one application of my invention thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing a cultivator-disk attached to the divided Fig. 3 is a perspective standard or shank. view showing the upper and lower members of the standard or shank separated. Fig. i isa perspective view of a shovel having means for attaching the same to the lower member of the standard.

A refers to the frame of a cultivator, having beams B, to which the upper member 0 of the standards are connected by bolts 19. The members G of the standard are also connected to the beam by a bar a, the forward end of which has a number of perforations, so that it may be adjustably attached to the beam to vary the inclination toward the front or rear. The upper end of the member 0 has ashoulder 0 below the point where it is bolted to the beam, and its lower end is shaped to provide a fiat circular portion or clutch d, the front face of which is indented or serrated for engagement with a similar clutch-face formed at the upper portion of the lower member D, said clutch-faces being connected by a bolt d.

The lower member of the standard below its clutch-section is rounded, and to said rounded portion is attached the blade which engages the soil, and said blade in practice may be either a disk, as shown in Figs. 1 and '2, ora shovel, as shown in Fig. 4c. The disk or shovel carries a split socket or block E, having an aperture through which the lower member of the shankis passed,and said block or socket is clamped to the lower member of the standard by a bolt 6, this connection providing for changing the angle of the blade or disk with respect to the line of draft, while the clutch admits of the changing of the angle of the blade with respect to the upper part of the standard. The construction herein shown provides for the angular presentation of the disks or shovels to the soil both horizontally and vertically, for by adjusting the bars a or by raising orlowering the beam the depth which the disks or shovels will en ter the soil may be varied. With this device upon a single cultivator-frame there can be used either disks or shovels, or the disks may be used 011 one of the sets of standards and shovels on the other set, and they may be set to throw the soil either inward or outward.

I claim-- A cultivator-standard, comprising a fiat member apertured at its upper end for attachment to a supporting-frame, a brace-bar connected to the frame and to the standard between its ends, a clutch-face on the lower end of the member which is disposed at right angles to the sides of said member, a lower member having a coinciding clutch-face and a rounded depending portion, a bolt for connecting the members together, and a cultivator-blade having a socket and means for clamping the socket upon the rounded portion of the lower member of the standard, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
