INV ENTOR I daim me( walk).
Nrrnn STATES PATENT FFICE.
DE LMER W. CALL, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE NATIONAL MALLEABLE CASTINGS COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
HUB-BAND.
SPECIFICATION formng part of Letters Patent NO. 681,666, dated August 27, 1901. Application filed April 13, 1901. Serial No. 55,675. (No model.)
To all whom it may cancer-m Be it known that I, DELMER XV. CALL, of Cleveland, in the connty of Cnyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and nseful Hnb-Band,of which the followingis a full., clear, and exact description, .reference being had to the accompan'ying d'awings, forming part oflthis specification; in which Figura 1 is an elevation, partly in section, showing the cap in place. Fig. 2 is a section of the end portion of the being removed; and Fig. of cap shown in Fig. 1.
In the drawings, 2 represents a hub-band having on its interier surface notches or sockets 3 3, eonstitnting looking poi-Liens, which are formed on the hab-band itself, preferably on an annnlar ridge 4 which is cast thereon and the enter side of which is preferably inelined toward the end, so as to affo-d an ornamental finish and facilitate the application of the cap. The cap which covers the end of the hab-band has an inwardly-projecting flange 5, which extends within the inner surface of the hab-band, and has lateral springaetuated catches 6, formed, preferably, with inclined sides and adapted to take into the notches. When the cap is-app1ied, it is thns held directly by the hhh-band itself without the intervention of any intermediate collar or ring. The cap can be released for removal by tnrning itnntil the catches disengage from the notches.
3 is a modification hub-band, the cap In Fig. 3 I showa modified constrnction in which the cap is forned not only with an inner flange 5, bnt with an onter flange 7, which extends around the exterior surface of the hub-band. The device is simple in Construction, it does not intel-fore with the casting of the huh-band, and it provides a fastening dcvice which is durable and efiicient and which has as few parts as possible.
I claim- 1. The combination of a hab-band having on its own interior'snrface looking portions with recesses therein, and a cap having an inwardly-projecting flange with spring-.
catehes monnted thereon, said spring-catches being adapted to engage the recesses of said looking portions and to be disengaged therefrom by turning, substantially as described.
, 2. The combination' of a hnb-bandhaving on its own interier surface arib eonstituting a looking -devce for a cap, said rb being formed with its enter side inclined toward the end of the hab-band to facilitate the application of the cap; and a cap having springcatches adapted to engage said rib, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have herennto set ny hand.
DELMER XV. CALL.
