WILLIAM A. RUSSELL, OF NEW BRIGHTON, NEYV YORK.
WALL -FLANGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 689,127, dated December 1'7, 1901.
Application filed February 23, 1897. Serial No. 624,745. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. RUSSELL, of New Brighton, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Wall- Flanges, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to wall-flanges, andis intended to provide a simple, cheap, and sightly construction for concealing pipe-joints with ceilings, walls, &c.
Heretofore wall-flanges have been made consisting of cast-metal sections locked together by engaging lugs and grooves. My device is designed to be made out of metal by stamping or rolling the same in sections and providing such sections with engaging parts, whereby the sections may be placed together and secured in position around a pipe after the pipe connection or bracket is affixed to the wall or ceiling. It also affords a means for inclosing safety-plugs in electrical fixtures, being advantageous therein by reason of the fact that it may be readily removed for the purpose of renewing the strip or plug.
In the drawings I have illustrated a construction embodying my invention, in which Figurelisaplanview. Fig.2isahorizontal section taken along line as w of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is an elevation view of one of the sections.
In the several Views of the drawings like figures of reference refer to like parts.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 2 are semicircular sections of metal having any desired form of ornamentation, which sections are counterparts of each other. Secured on the inner face of the section 2 are socketpieces 3. These socket-pieces are secured to the flange-section 2 at each end in any desired manner, as by brazing or soldering, and are so positioned relatively to the section as to leave a space for the reception and engagement of projecting horns 4, formed on section 1. These horns4 are secured at each end of section 1 and are adapted to fit into the space between the outer surface of the socketpieces 3 and the inner surface of section 2, whereby the sections 1 and 2 are secured together, so that the ends of one section abut against the ends of the other to form a circle. The sections 1 and 2 may have formed on them a downwardly-projecting flange 5, to which or to the inner surface of the sections 1 and 2 are secured tube-sections 5 and 6, each of which is provided with a spring-finger 7 and a cut-out portion 8, the cut-out portion of one tube-section being adapted to per niit of the passage of the spring-finger of the other section when the two parts of the flange are brought into engagement. The springfinge'rs are for the purpose of bearing upon the tube about which the flange is placed for the purpose of frictionally holding the same in place, and their spring action being upon the inclosed tube at a point beyond the point of engagement of the two flange-sections positively maintains the engagement of the two flange-sections.
What is claimed is-- A wall-flange consisting of two sections 1, 2, one provided with horns 4 and the other with socket-pieces 3 for receiving said horns, one of said sections being also provided with a tubular section 5 and the other with a like section 6, and each of said tubular sections being provided with a pair of spring- fingers 7, 8, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM A. RUSSELL.
