BELT-STRAP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 673, dated May 7, 1901.

To all whmn it may concern.-

Be it known that we, ARTHUR D. THOMAS and IRVING R. PIERSON, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Belt-Strap, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The purpose of this invention is to provide a belt-strap which may be readily attached to or detached from ones trousers,th us adapting the trousers to a belt at will.

This specification is the disclosure of one form of the invention, while the claim defines the actual scope thereof.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention in use. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

The device comprises a strap a of any suitable material, preferably enameled leather. The end portions of this strap are turned under the middle portion and are provided with fastening devices comprising heads b,to which are attached threaded shanks 0. These shanks are adapted to be forced through the cloth forming the trousers and are provided with nuts 6, whereby they are held in place, as shown in the drawings.

In practice a number of these devices will be applied to each pair of trousers, as usual, and the user may take them from the trousers at will or apply them to other trousers to suit his convenience. The fastening devices are attached to the trousers by removing the nuts 6 and pushing the shanks 0 through the cloth and then replacing the nuts.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A belt-strap, comprising a strap proper formed of flexible material, the end portions of the strap proper being turnedinwardly under the main or middle portion of the strap and parallel therewith, and removable fastening devices securing the ends of the strap to the garment, said fastening devices being covered and hidden by the middle portion of the strap.
