Description

@uitrit `tatte5 gutwt @Hire AARON HUYGK, or oURToWN, Wisconsin.
' Letters Panni No. 65,915, @zar-ed .new 1s, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN GHUENS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known that I, AARON HUYCK, of Ourtown, in the county of Sheboygan, and Stato of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Churns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionY of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my churn, on lines z :v of fig. 2.
Figure 2 is a plan of the same.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the same.
That others may understand the construction and operation of my invention I will `describe it particularly.
My churn is provided with double dashers moving in opposite directions, and operated by the crank A and driving-'wheel B. The cylinder of my churn may be constructed of any suitable material, andit is provided at' its upper edge with three loops, c c e', into which are inserted the ends of the bridge D and post N, which support the gearing and upper bearing of the main shaft, upon which are secured the dashers which agitato the cream. The main shaft E rests in a step at its lower end, and its upper end is secured in a box, F, at thc highest or central part of the bridge D. At the extreme upper end of the shaft E is the bevel-pinion G, which 'gears with the bevel-driver B at its upper side, so that when the crank A and driver B are revolved the dashersv H I-I, secured to therlower end of the shaft E, will be lrotated also.A Fitting over thc shaft E, and revolving upon it, is the sleeve I, having at its upper end a bevel-pinion, J, similar to the pinion G, which gears with the lower edge of the driver B, so that the motions of the sleeve I and the shaft E are in opposite directions. Projecting from the sleeve I are arms K, which support dashers at their outer ends, and by the movements of the two sets of dashers H and K in opposite directions the cream is most thoroughly agitated. The box F is formed in two parts, that is, one-half of the bearing is formed in the solid part of the bridge, and the other half is a cap secured in place by two thumbscrews,L L, so that it can be detached readily to liberate the shaft E, when it is desirable to do so, in lorder to repair br cleanse the implement. The driver B is mounted upon the shaft M, one end of which hasn bearing in the side of the bridge D, and the other end has its bearing in the top of the post N, which is secured at its lower end in the loop c. A loose cover, O, is fitted to the top of the vessel to prevent portions of the cream from being thrown out by the dashers.
When this churn is to be cleansed theA several parts may be separated without trouble. The bridge D and post N are detached by removing them from the loops c c c'. The bridge D may be separated from the shaftA E by removing the thumb-nuts L L. v
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bridge D, stepped in loops c c, and provided with the box F secured by thumb-screws L, all constructed and arranged as set forth. o
The bridge D, post N, shafts E I, pinions -I G, driver B, and shaft M, constructed and arranged as set forth. Y
AARON HUYCK.
