Description

Nu. 655,4l3. Patented u 7, I900. H. A. PARKYN. MAGNETIC DRINKING CUP.
(Application filed Oct. 28, 1899.)
(No Model.)
M M w n: uoams vz zas co. PHOTG-LATNG" WASHINGTON n c NITED STATES PATENT CFFIcE.
HERBERT A. PARKYN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MAGNETIC DRINKING-CUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 655,413, dated August 7, 1900.
Application filed October 20, 1899 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, HERBERT A. PARKYN, residing at No. 4020 Drexel Boulevard, in the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drinking-Cups,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in drinking-cups, the whole of which or the metal portions of which are magnetized either by a current of electricity or otherwise; and the objects of my improvements are, first, to provide a drinking-cup that will magnetize any magnetic liquid that may be put into it, and, second, to provide a cup that will make to any one using it a powerful health-giving suggestion of electricity and magnetism.
A magnetic drinking-cup such as described herein is a useful and necessary instrument in the treatment of diseases by magnetism and suggestion.
I attain the objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation; Fig. 2, a vertical section on the line 1 2, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a plan. Fig. 4: is a section on line 3 4:, Fig. 1.
Similar letters represent similar parts throughout the several views.
D D is the base or foot of the cup; C C, the neck or handle; 13 B, the supports for the receptacle, and A the receptacle for liquid.
For convenience I construct the cup in the following manner: B, which is one of the supports for the receptacle A, C, which is one-half of the handle C C, divided on the line 1 2, Fig. 3, and D, which is one-half of the base D D, divided on the line 1 2, Fig. 3, are constructed of one piece of metal. B C D are constructed in the same manner. Between and within B and B is placed a receptacle or bowl A. B C D and BC D are then fastened together, as at b and c, by means of a band soldered fast and set into the handle C C or in some other manner, affordin g a good connection between them. Before being thus joined together 13 C D and B C D are magnetized in the usual manner by the use of electricity or magnets. T is magnetized positively, and T negatively, or vice versa, so that when E C D and B C D Serial No. 734,180. (No model.)
are fastened together the whole framework becomes a magnet, with the poles at T and T and with the magnetic field between the sides B and B.
I do not Wish to be limited, however, to the particular construction'shown in the drawings and above described except as made the subject of specific claims, as it is obvious that the said construction may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention.
In whatever way the cup may be constructed the metal used in its construction is magnetized in the usual Way either by a current of electricity or by the use of magnets, the idea being to have as much magnetic stress passing through the liquid'holding portion of the cup as possible.
I am aware that drinking-cups may have been constructed of metal in whole or in part and that metal has been magnetized. I therefore do not claim either the one or the other; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A drinking-cup comprising as a part thereof two separate magnets of opposite polarity.
2. A drinkingcup comprising a bowl and a holder therefor, said holder being provided with two magnetic parts of opposite polarity.
3. A cup comprising a two-part holder, the parts of which are properly secured together, each part consisting of a base, a handle and a bowl receptacle in combination with a drinking-bowl. 1
at. A cup comprising a two-part holder, the parts of which are metal, the upper extremities of these parts being magnetized the one positively, the other negatively, the parts being properly secured together, each part consisting of a base, a handle and a bowl receptacle, in combination with a drinkingbowl.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I affix my signature, in
the presence of two witnesses, this 17th day of October, A. D. 1899.
HERBERT A. PARKYN. IVitnesses:
ROGER SHERMAN, Soorr BROWN.
