WESLEY A. COE, 0F GREENSBORO', N ORTH CAROLINA.
Letters Patent No. 62,184, dated February 19, 1867.',`
turnover; APPLE einen, eenen, AND corren.
"cite rliehnlc nfctnb in in ilgnsn itam gzilent amt milking nu nt tige 5min.l
TO ALL WHQMlT MAY-CONCERN:
Be it known that I, W. A. Cor/:fof Greensboro, in the county of' Guilford, lund Stute of NortlrCurolina., have invented a. new and improved Apple Purer, Corel', und Cutter; und I do hereby declare thu-t the following is n.
"full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accomponying drawings forming part of 4 this specification.
My invention rela-tes to a. machine by which ripples muy be quickly p11-red, cored, and cut into pieces without removing theepple from the fork. invention consists in constructing a. tube upon the end of which are 'cutters that take out the core und eut the apple' into several pieces. This tube is attached to and operates byj'levers.
To enable others skilled in the nrt to multe und use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.4 v
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved machine.
Figure, 2 is :m end-view of the cutter.
Figure 3 is e. sectional view of the parer and nu nipple.
Letters of like nume und kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
A represents the base, upon which is located and secured my improv-ed machine. B is u. box or frame, secured to one end of thebuse A, through which poss und have bearings and work longitudinally two bars, C and D. Thebm C is provided with n. hole that runs from end to end of the seid bar C, und through which the At the end of' the said bor is a. cutter made of steel or otherl suitable metal, with a. round hole that corresponds with the one in the bor C. Around this hole und that which forms it isi en annular cutter, E, und from which radiate :my desired number of cutters, a a a a a a, that out the apples in' pieces. G is a. .stundordsecured to the buse A, in the upper end of which. are two bca-rings iu which runs the forli H, formed at the cud of the shaft J, und uponthe opposite end oi' which is the crunk K. At the end oi' the har D is scoured e bar, L, that extends up with a. curve, at the upper end of which is provided u-rng of suiiieient size to slide freely over the forkv H, for the purpose of sliding or removing thecore from the apple, and for forcing the apple against the cutter. M is a shaft that runs through and has hearings upon cach side ofthe box or frame B, with the outer end turned up et right angles, which answers the purpose of a. lever 4torecipx'oeute the bars C :md D. Upon the inside of the said box or frame'B, and upon the shaft, is secured e.
cross-bar, N, to the 'said shaft M. .This cross-har'N is connected by joints to the bars 'C und D. 0 is the knife orparer, tlxe lhandle of which posses through an eye made in the upper end of the cn'rved standard l?, which is secured-to the base A, so as to be convenient tothe fork Il. In fig. 3, Q represents en apple being pared with the knife or purer O. New, ii' au apple ie placed upon the fork H und rotated, it will be pared by menus of the knife O, after which the lever or sheitM is brought up, which forces the annular E und the radiating cutters a a a a cz cz against the apple. At the sume time the apple und core nre forced oil' the fork by thc ring or har L, by the movement of the bar D, so that it will 'De seen that the shaft M causes the hers C und D to move in opposite directions, thus making the cutters and ring meet, making it one oi' the most simple, novel, .and durable apple machines ever used. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, und desire to secure by Letters Potent, `is
1. The tubular bur C, having its opening continuous throughout, for-cutting out the core and discharging it beyond the working parts of the device, in combination with the shaft M, cross-bar N, and bar D, in the menner represented und described.
2. I claim the sliding bur D, provided with described.
'8. The shaft M :md cross-her N,ii1 combination with the bers C and D, for the purposes as Ishown and described WESLEY A. COF
the bur L,in which is the ring substantially as shown und Witnesses A. P. ECKEL, Jouw K. CHISMAN.
