CHARLES PROVIS, OF EMSWORTH, ENGLAND.
CLIP FOR NURSING-BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 624,974, dated May 16, 1899.
Application filed February 26, 1898r $erial No. 671,846. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OHARLEs PRov1s,a subj ect of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Emsworth, in the county of Hants, England, have invented certain new and useful Irnprovements in Clips for Nursing-Bottles, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to spring-clips, and the object sought is to provide a spring-clip of simple and economical construction and which is especially adapted for use -with nursin g-bottles.
The invention consists of a spring-cli p for nursing-bottles constructed substantially as hereinafter shown and described, and defined in the claim.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accom panying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same letters of referencein each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a top view of my improved springclip. Figs. 2 and 3 are similar views of slightlymodified forms. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the spring-clip. Fig. 5 is a side view showing my improved clip in operative position, and Fig. 6 shows in side view another use to which the clip may be applied.
Referring to the drawings, A represents an ordinary or preferred form of nursing-bottle, B the rubber tube, and B the guard thereon.
The spring-clip comprises a body portion 0 and is formed of a strip of spring metal and is adapted to embrace the neck of a nursingbottle. Upon the side of the body portion of the clip is arranged a pair of spring-jaws D D,-which are pivoted to the body of the clip. The jaw D is bent into the form of a hook,
and the jaw D is curved inwardly and then outwardly and is arranged to bear at its end upon the end of the hook, as shown in Fig 1.
The spring-jaws D D may be riveted to the body portion or may be swiveled thereto, or, as shownin Fig. 2, the jaws may be stamped out of the body portion. So, also, may one of the jaws be stamped from the body portion of the other jaw, as shown in Fig. 4.
As shown in Fig. 5, the body portion of the clip is clasped about the neck of the nursingbottle and the guard-piece below the rubber slipped between the clamping-jaws, whereby it is securely held out of the way and in position for immediate use. It frequently occurs that in feeding infants at night the bottle becomes misplaced and its contents spill. To avoid this, the bottle may be conveniently attached by means of the hook to some portion of the crib W, as shown in Fig. 6.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The herein-described attachment for nursing-bottles, said attachment consisting of a circular spring-clip open at one side and adapted to grasp the neck of the bottle, said clip being provided at its closed side with a projecting spring formed into a loop or hook at its free end, and a corresponding project- 'ing spring which is adapted to bear on said hook or loop, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myinvention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this th day of February, 1898.
CHARLES PROVIS.
Witnesses WALTER LANGER,
ARTHUR WILLIAMSON.
