TO ALL WHOM IT MAYl CONCERN:

'Be it known that I, GEORGE HAVELL, of Newark, in the .county of Essex, and in theState of New Jersey, have invented ertain new and useful improvements inY Travelling-Bag Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear and exact description thereof, reference being had toA the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making apart of this specification. l

A B represent the two sections of thev metallic frame, (hinged together by means of the lconnecting-rod D,') of a travelling-bag.- These sections are shaped in. the usual form, and lhave each a receptacle, y, or groove f or placing the leather or carpet', C, which forms the bag. The main objectofvmy Yinvention is in the construction of the frame with the above groove, of one piece of metal, to admit of the leather or other material -without the use or application of whatis termedA the ringf To more fully explain my invention, I will state v`that the material forming the bag is usually placed between; the frame proper, (which isfner'el'y Yan L-shaped piece of metah) and the inner ring, by means of rivetspassing through openings in the frame and ring. This has often been attended with considerable trouble in the fitting ofthe ring to the frame, and to get the openings in the one to correspond with the openings in the other. My frame, (that is, each secti on,\)is constructed oi' one piece of met-al. I take a piece of metal of suitable width', (say two and a quarter inches,) and by means of the usiial rolling machinery, or' in any other way, form it into somewhat of the shape ofl the letter T, and then bend the nearest prong upward parallel to thev stem, which then assumes the shape-.of the letter L, with a groove betweentwo of its angles thus formed. (See fig. The frameis rst made straight, and'afterward bent tp suit the bag. By reference to the drawing, it will be seen that m n show the two ends or sides of the metal sheet, with the groove y between them, and thatthe top, e, is necessarily doubled; also, thatfthere are suitable openings, 2: x, made in each angle, m n, ifor connecting the bag between them. a z represent the hinges, which are formed of the framesections, and connected by the rold D.
