DEVICE FoR CARRYING HOSE.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, PETER FRENTZ, of New Albany, county of Floyd, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Firemens Hose Carriers and Spanners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon.

In the drawings herewith annexed and forming a part of this specification, A Arepresent two metallic handles crossing each other and pivoted, as seenat af. These handles are made similar to the handles or sections of a pair of the ordinary scissors, but are provided with jaws at the lower end, d d, and circular openings L L at the top, the purposes of which are hereinafter set forth.

B B represent two semicircular metallic bands, which are hinged to the handles A A within the jaws d d, and can be turned either up or down or held perpendicular by the said hinges. At the lower part of each band and near the end of each there is a circular opening, as seen at c in Fig. 2.

D D represent two short chains, made in any ofthe ordinary forms, and secured within the openings L L at the top of the handles A, and to the plate E at the other extremity of the said chains.

H represents the eccentric hook. This hook has two pron gs-onelarge,f, and one small, gand is attached to the center of the plate E, and loosely pivoted in the same. This hook can be turned entirely around by means ofthe pivot.

The objects of this invention are obvious. The ordinary hose-Spanner now in use is merely a straight bar of iron with a crook at the end, while the common mode of elevating or carrying the hose is by hand or thrown upon the shoulder.

In using this invention the hose can be spanned by the bands B B, or one of them. The holes or openings in said bands encircle the knobs upon the rims where the hose are joined together, and extract one section of the hose from the other by unscrewing. It will also be seen that whenever it is necessary to carry the hose up a ladder the bands are clasped around the hose, and the eccentric hook acts as a handle in elevating the aforesaid hose. The more weight there is to carry the more rm the bands encircle and secure the same.

The prongf of hook H is intended to be covered with leather, or anything that will be soft to the hand. In elevating the hose, or carrying the same up a ladder, the hook H can be attached and secured to the rounds of the ladder by the large prong f, or can be hooked to the belt of' the fireman by the smaller prong of the hook, g.

This invention is a neat, handy, and economical contrivance, and will be found something much desired by remen in general.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The pivoted handles A A, with bands B B, chains D D, plate E, and eccentric hook H, arranged in the manner substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
