Description

(No Model.)
D. DANIEL.
PLOW.
' No. 550,318. Patented Nov. 26, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL DANIEL, OF LONOKE, ARKANSAS.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 550,318, dated November 26, 1895.
Application filed October 9, 1894:. Serial No. 525,332. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL DANIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lonoke, in the county of Lonoke and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invent-ion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is in the nature of a combined plow, potato-digger, and subsoil-cultivator attachments to be used on any ordinary plowstock; and it consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, all of which are hereinafter fully described in this specification and in the claims hereunto attached.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improvement, showing the potato-digger and cultivator-wings 3. Fig. 2 is a front view of the body 1, to which the various attachments are secured. Fig. 3 is a front view of an assemblage of parts forming a double-turning plow. Fig. 4 is a front view of the body 1 having the cultivatorwings secured thereto. Fig. 5 is in part a cross-sectional view of Fig. 2 on the line a; 00. Fig. 6 is an elevation of one of the potatodiggers 3 and cultivator attachments.
My invention is described as follows:
1 represents the body portion, to which is secured the point 2 and the potato-digger and cultivator-wing attachments 3. The body 1 consists of a central portion 4, provided with a countersunk bolt-hole 5, through which a bolt is passed to secure the body to the plowstandard. Said body 1 is a segment, and is provided with flanges 6, recesses 7, flanges 8, and a downward extension 9. Said flanges 6 are provided with bolt-holes for securing the wings thereto, and the downward extension 9 is also provided with bolt-holes for securing the point 10 to the same. At the point where the flanges 6 turn out from the body 1 there are grooves 11, Fig. 5, for the inner edges of the attachments 3, 12, and 13 to rest in, and the flanges 8 on the upper edge of the bodyl are for the extensions 14 of the attachments to rest against. The bolt-holes 5in the body 1 are flared inwardly at their outer ends, so that when the bolts 15, Fig. 3, are passed through the bolt-holes in the point 2 they may be readily forced through the bolt-holes 5. These bolt-holes 5 are made thus flaring, because in casting two pieces of metal it is difficult to and sometimes wefail in getting the bolt-holes toregister correctly.
My plow when put up according to Fig. 1 has wing attachments 3, provided with downward points 16, leaving on each side of the point 2 openings 17, and said attachments are also provided with fingers 18, so that the dirt may pass between the fingers left in making said slots. Thus this construction pulverizes the dirt when we are breaking it up and preparing it for cultivation, and it acts as a sort of sieve in digging potatoes, letting the dirt fall back while it throws the potatoes up into the front.
When constructed as shown in Fig. 3, it is a double shovel; but it may be used with only one of the attachments 12, in which case it would become a turning-plow. When put up as shown in Fig. 4, with a point attached, (not necessarily the point shown by the number 2, but any suitable point,) it becomes a cultivator.
I do not claim the point 2, nor do I confine myself to the use of this point; nor do I claim the wings 13. The new and important features which are mine are the recesses 7, (see Fig. 2,) flanges 8, grooves 11, Fig. 5, flared boltholes 5, Figs. 2, 4, and 5, wings 3 and 12, adapted to fit the body 1, grooves 11, and recesses 7.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is--v 1. In a plow, constructed substantially as shown and described, the combination with the plow stock and standards, of the body 1, provided with a central countersunk bolt hole 5, flared bolt holes 5', recesses 7, flanges 8, grooves 11 and perforated flanges 6; plow point 2, and wing attachments 3, provided with fingers 18 and downward extensions 16, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination with a plow stock, the
body, having a central countersunk bolt hole I11 testimony whereof I affix my signature flared bolt holes, one on each side of the down in presence of two Witnesses. ward extension 9; recesses 7, flanges 8, and
grooves 11; said body adapted to carrya per- DAN. DANIEL. forated plowpoint, and perforated Wings,sub- \Vitnesses:
stantiallyas shovm and described and for the GEO. HOOVEY RULE, Jr.
purposes set forth. JAS. F. CLEMENTS.
