BREEGHING STRAP.
No. 559,722. Patented May 5, 1896.
c mlllfllllllilllllilllllll l/VVE/VTUH ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT BENJAMIN P. M. LANG, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
BREECHING-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 559,722, dated May 5, 1896.
Application filed April 10, 1893.
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN P. M. LAN G, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breeching-Straps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to breeching-straps; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a plan View of the breeching-strap. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the strap, taken on the line 5c 00 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail plan and end view of the spring removed from the strap.
A is the main portion of the strap, which consists of a band of leather having its upper and lower edges a folded over, as shown in Fig. 2.
A is the cover-band,which is secured to the portion A by rows of stitches a, leaving a central tubular portion B.
O is a spring having an inwardly-curved central portion 0 and outwardly-curved end portions 0. This spring is inserted in the tubular portion B and causes the strap to assume the shape shown in Fig. 1. inwardly-curved portion comes between the legs of the animal and the spring holds the strap clear of the droppings. When the horse backs, it partially straightens the spring, and the strap assumes its original form as soon as the horse ceases to move backward.
The ends of the cover-band A are passed The central Serial No. 469,762. (Nomodel-l through the ordinary end rings D and are secured into the tubular end portions of the main portion A of the strap. It will be seen that the spring is Wholly inclosed within the strap, and that as no pulling strain is allowed to come upon the spring it is not liable to be broken.
What I claim is 1. Thecombination, with the tubular main portion of the breeching-strap having its upper and lower edges folded over, of a spring inelosed in the central portion of the said strap and having an inwardly-curved central portion and outwardly-curved end portions, the end rings, and a cover-strap secured to the tubular main portion of the breechingstrap by rows of stitches above and below the said spring, the ends of the said cover-strap being passed through the said end rings and secured in the tubular ends of the main strap, substantially as described and shown.
2. The combination, with a spring having an inwardly-curved central portion 0 and outwardly-curved end portions 0, of a breechingstrap consisting of a leather band having its upper and lower edges a folded over and a cover-band secured thereto by rows of stitches o, and forming a tubular portion B in which the said spring is inclosed, and end rings D attached to the ends of the said strap, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN P. M. LANG.
