Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.J
DENNIS OONLON, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
Specification forming part of Letters P atent No. 55,624, dated June 19, 1866.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DENNIS CONLON, of Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State ot' Maine, have invented a new and Improved Portable Door-Fastening; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which Will enable others to make and use my invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 shows a View, in perspective, of my invention; Fig. 2, a View of my invention applied to a door.
My invention consists of -a plate having two spurs at one end thereof, and bent at the opposite end to form a shoulder, in combination `with a button of the form hereinafter described and a pivot.
A in the accompanying drawings shows the button, having the recess c to lit over the shoulder s, and so also to admit ofthe revolution of the button, while its inner face is even with the inner side of the shoulder s, as illustrated inl Fig. 1. b represents the two spurs.
In Fig. 2, F indicates the door-frame; D, the door. The shoulder s is designed to overlap the frame of the door, and the spurs b to be pressed into the door-jamb when the door is closed.
My invention is used in the following Inanner: Place the plate B against the jamb of the door, with the spurs b turn ed toward the j amb, the shoulder s overlapping the door-frame, and the button A turned in a vertical position, at right angles to the one indicated in Fig. 2, close the door, and turn the button, as seen in Fig. 2. rIhe spurs penetrate the door-jamb, and the button secures the door.
I am aware of the existence ofthe following Letters Patent, to wit: N o. 9,765, dated J une 7, 1853; No. 11,646, dated September 5, 1854; No. 12,675, dated April 10, 1855 5 No. 14,834, dated May 6,1856; No. 16,282, dated December 23,1856; No. 14,773, dated April 29, 1856, No. 28,186, dated May 8, 1860; but themechanism of all these devices is different from mine in not combining the plate B, having the shoulder s, and the button A, having the recess e.
Having thus described my invention, and disclaiming all previous devices having the same object, but not combining the several parts, as herein set forth,
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
lhe combination of the plate B, having the spurs b and shoulders s, with the pivot n and button A, constructed as described, all as and for the purposes set forth.
DENNIS CON LON.
