FAN.
V SPEGIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 543,252, dated July 23, 1895.
Application filed December 6, 1894- Serial No. 531,086. (No model.)
. [O ence being had to the, accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in fans.
r The object of the invention is to provide an improved simple and durable fan, strong and effective in construction, and which can be produced at a minimum cost, and yet will be neat and ornamental in appearance.
3 2c The invention consists in certain novel fea tures of construction and in combinations of parts more fully and particularly described I hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is an elevation showing the improved fan. Fig. 2 is a detail View showing wire supporting-frame. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional View.
In the drawings, a indicates the body of the 0 fan, composed of any suitable material capable of producing a draft of air when vibrated. This body can consist of suitably-formed pieces of cardboard or stiff paper made of any desirable shape and suitably ornamented 3 5 or having advertising matter thereon. The frame is provided to support this fan-body and to form the handle. This frame is preferably formed of a single piece of light wire, having its opposite portions bent to form the two circles or rings b, of suitable diameter, preferably the same diameter, and located on opposite sides of the body of the fan, as clearly shown. The portion of the wire between these two rings is formed into a lateral 5 loop 0, which constitutes the handle of the fan.
Suitable clips d are passed through the body of the fan, binding the two rings of the'frame together on opposite sides of the fan-body, whereby a most strong and durable frame is produced, which is light in weight and eco- 5o nomical in construction.
I do not wish to limit myself to the circular supporting-frames or reinforcing-frames on opposite sides of the fan-body, as the frames can be of various shapes to support the fan- 5 body and hold it stiffly in position and against warping, and to serve as protectors against undue bending or breaking of the fan-body.
It is evident that various changes might be made in the forms, arrangements, and constructions of the parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth, but consider myself entitled to all such changes 6 as fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by- Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. The fan comprising a fan body, suitable frames on opposite sides thereof formed of a single piece of wire bent laterally between HORACE, D. JONES.
