To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, C ARK B. DIBBLE and FRED T. DIBBLE, citizens of the United States, residing at Flint, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table-Waiters; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Our invention relates to table-waiters; and it consists in the peculiar arrangement and construction shown and described.

Figure l is a plan view with the shelf or table shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view.

F is the frame or support for the waiter, and consists of five or more radial arms extending on the same plane for the purpose of holding the waiter from tipping.

T is the top of the waiter, and is a flat, circular, or other shaped board secured to the upper bearing 3, as shown. I

1 is a central spindle extending upward from the center of the radial arms, and is tapering, being larger at the bottom. It may be provided with an annular groove 1, as shown in Fig. 3, for the purpose hereinafter mentioned. 7

2 is a socket or hub fitting the spindle 1. The inner annular surface of this hub is recessed, having but a small portion 2 of the hub at the top and bottom to bear on the spin dle 1. The spindle 1 being tapering, the inner surface of the hub tapers correspondingly, forming a cone-bearing. We form this hub with the bearing 2, as described, for the purpose of having less friction as the hub revolves, as it isdesigned to do.

The hub 2 has an annular flange 3, to which the top of the waiter may be secured.

In order that the two parts of the waiterthe top and the base -may be removed from the table without coming apart, we may insert a screw 1 through a hole in the body of the hub, so as to enter the annular groove 1' in the spindle 1. The screw should not enter far enough to engage the spindle except when the waiter is raised up, when it prevents the spindle falling out. It is obvious that by this construction of a bearing there can be no tilting of the waiter-top, for the bearings at 2 are tight, and as the bearing wears it will take up its wear by sliding a little farther down the tapering spindle.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is=- In a table waiter of the class described, the combination with a spindle having at its base arms extending laterally and forming the base, the spindle tapering from the base upward and having midway of its base and top the annular groove 1', of a table top having a depending central hub secured to the top through laterally extending flanges on the hub, a narrow annular collar on each end of the bore of the hub, the collars having their annular surfaces tapering the collar on the lower end of the hub adapted to fit upon the lower part of the spindle, the collar on the upper end of the hub adapted to engage the upper end of the spindle, the two collars forming the only bearing surfaces of the hub on the spindle, the set screw 1" extending from the outside of the hub opposite to and into the annular groove 1 of the spindle, and moving freely therein, whereby the hub may be secured against removal from the spindle and freely rotate thereon, as and for the purpose set forth.
