Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters .Patent No. 53,017, dated March 6, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. MALLOEY, of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Buckle; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its nature, construction, and use.
The nature ofmyinvention consists in the peculiar device of constructing a double buckle of two pieces of metal, each bent in the shape ofthe letter U, the ends Vof each piece forming the points, and the curved parts the loops.
In the drawings, Figure l is the entire buckle. Figs. 2 and 3 showthe two parts ot' the buckle. Fig. 4 is an end view of the buckle, partly open. Fig. 5 is a View ot' the buckle with one strap attached. Fig. 6 is a view of the buckle with both straps attached. In constructing this bucklethe two pieces are stamped or died 7 out, in the shape represented in the drawings, of any suit-able metal. The piece B is drilled or punched out at H H. The points of the piece A are passed through the the holes H H and then bent as shown in Fig. l, and the buckle is complete.
This buckle is used the same as any other. Its advantages are simplicity of construction and the readiness with which it can be attached to the holdin g-strap C. Thus the strap C is simply to be passed through the loop A,`
as shown in Fig. 5, and the buckle is rmly attachedand ready for use without sewing of any kind. The positions of the straps when the buckle is in use are shown in Fig. 6.
What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is i A double buckle of two pieces of metal, constructed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES A. MALLORY.
Witnesses WILLIAM EDsoN, A. HUN BERRY.
