ATENT EMERANN LINDNER, OF AKRON, OHIO.
ToY."
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 517,616, dated April 3, 1894.
Applic ti fi July 3,1893. Serial No. 479.527.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMERANN LINDNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, 5 have inventeda certain new'and useful Improvement in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to improvements in that class of toys made for childrens use in the diminutive of those articles used by older people; and the objects of my invention are to construct a toy which can, by a slight interchange of its component parts, be capable of totally different use than it can when its parts are diiferently arranged.
To the aforesaid objects my invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and then specifically claimed reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the different views, Figure 1, is a perspective of my improved toy when it is used as a cradle. Fig. 2, is a like view of the same when used as a table, taboret or play-house. Fig. 3, is aperspective of the sanre when used as a chair. Fig. 4, is aperspective of it when used as a wagon or carriage. Fig. 5, is a plan of Fig. 4. Figs. 6, and 7, are details of the wagon or carriage wheels and their connections.
trough shaped frames preferably semihexagonal in cross section and more or less ornamented by carving or sawing open sides are placed together they will make 'a complete hollow semihexagon with one end closed by end pieces, 3, 4. These are made to project beyond the frame on one "side and to be furnished with a semi-elliptical edge 5 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
, These two frames are arranged to beheld and hinged together by two lever hinges, 5, 6, pivoted on the inner faces of the frames at the points, 7, and they are hinged together at the points, 8. On the under outer faces of 'the elliptical edges of the heads,
If a chair is desired In the drawings 1, 2, represent two hollow,
the other,
as is desired, These frames are so made thatwhen their (No model.)
each frame are placed two pairsof wheels, 9, each pair independent of the other and provided with a common axle, 10, mounted and journaled in brackets, 11, which brackets are adapted to swing o n'pivots, 12, within suitable pockets on the sides of frames 1, and,
2, the upper ends of brackets, 11, are made with square corners. The brackets, 11, are held in place by a flat spring, 13, similar in operation to a knife blade spring fastened to the'face of frames, 1 and, 2.
In operation if a cradle is desired the frames, 1, and, 2, are placed with their open ends together and the hook, 14, (see Fig. 5 is fastened to the stud, 15, and the wheel carrying brackets are turned up thus permitting 3, 4:, to serve as cradle rockers. the closed ends are placed together and the two thus formed are placed in a vertical position, the closed ends serving as a seat. a f table or taboret is desired the open faces of the frames are placed together, and the two closed ends serve as a table top, also in this'form as a miniature play house. If a wagon or carriage is desired the parts are placed in the same position as for a cradle, and the brackets, 11, are turned down thus causing the peripheries of the wheels, 9, to project beyond the edges of the heads, 3, and, 4, and upon this may beplaced a parasol or folding top if desired.
What I claim is- 1. A toy consisting of two trough-shaped frames, each closed at one end and open at hinged together by lever-hinges arranged to permit their open ends; open faces; or closed ends, as desired, to be severally swung in juxtaposition, substantially as shown and described.
2. Atoy consisting of two trough-shaped frames, each closed at one end and open at the other, their closed ends having curved edges extending beyond their outer sides to constitute rockers, said frames being connected by lever-hinges arranged to permit their open faces, open ends or closed ends, as desired to be severally swung into juxtaposition, substantially as shown and described.
3. A. toy, consisting of two trough-shaped frames, each closed at one end and open at juxtaposition, and each provided with wheelthe other, hinged together by lever-hinges arcarrying brackets arranged to swing outside ranged to permit their open ends to be swung the surface of their respective frames, subinto juxtaposition,
and a retaining device as stantially as shown and described. 5 a hook and eye to retain them in ali gnment, In testimony that I claim the above I here- I substantially as shown and described. unto set my hand.
