0.1mm. GURLING IRON HOLDER FOR GAS FIXTURES.
No. 500,232. Patented June 27, 1.893.

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID HEER, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
CURLlNG-IRON HOLDER FOR GAS-FIXTURES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,232, dated June 27, 1893.
Application filed August 24, 1892. Serial No. 444,021. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID I-IEER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Curling-Iron Holders for Gas- Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement of supporting bracket attachments for gas burners and has particular relation to the means of supporting curling irons over a burner.
The objects or my invention are to provide a simple and convenient form of support of this class of superior construction and arrangement; to admit of the same being readily connected with or detached from any ordinary gas burner or similar projection; to provide means for reversing the position of the supporting head and to produce other improvements which will be more specifically pointed out hereinafter. These objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved supporting bracket showing the same connected with a gas burner and showing a curling iron supported thereby. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same showing the curling iron broken away in front of the support. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line was of Fig. 2 showing the curling iron removed and Fig. 4 is a view in elevation of the head or upper I portion of my improved bracket.
Similar letters refer to si milar parts throughout the several views.
Cl, represents the body of my improved bracket which is preferably formed as shown, of the integral arms b and 0, extending at right angles with each other.
cl represents a longitudinal head bar or plate, which is supported in the manner hereinafter described in the upper end of the upper arm I) of the bracket body. This horizontal head or top-plate d is provided centrally 011 its under side with a downwardly projecting boss d which rests upon the upper end of the arm I) and which is adjustably connected therewith by means of a vertical screw 7 which passes downward through said boss d into a screwthreaded socket in said arm I).
The upper side of the top-bar cl is provided with a central transverse depression or seat g.
It represents a clamping strip which maybe formed of any desirable spring metal, one end of said strip being secured as shown, upon the upper side of the bar d, near one end thereof. This spring strip which extends in the direction of the length of the bar at and normally rests thereon, is provided with an upwardly curved bend it immediately over the seat 9, while the forward or loose end of said spring is inclined upward from the bar d as shown in the drawings at 71 The lower and horizontal. arm 0 of my improved bracket is provided throughout the greater portion of its length with a vertical slot or mortise i which opens at the outer end of said arm. This slotting or mortising of the arm 0 results as shown, in dividing the latter into two members or fingers c 0 At opposite points in the sides or surfaces of these fingers c are formed vertical grooves or depressions 0 The outer ends of the fingers 0 c are adapted to be drawn toward each other or forced apart by means of a clamping screw 6 which passes through an internally threaded opening in one of said fingers and has one of its ends journaled in the the opposite finger.
The manner of operating and utilizing my improvedsupport is as follows. The bracket or formed substantially as described is fixed in position for use by causing the burner is of a gas or other similar fixture to project upward through the arm mortise t' between the depressions c and turn the clamp screw 6 until the fingers c 0 are as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, clamped firmly about the base of the burner 76. The bracket being thus sup ported, a curling iron m or other object which it is desired to support over the gas flame is inserted laterally between the upturned end h of the spring strip hand the upper surface of the bar head (1, said iron being forced inward until it rests within the seat g in which position it will be clamped by the upwardly bent portion h of the spring strip. As shown in the drawings, it will be seen that this method of supporting the iron to be heated admits of said iron being supported within or over the gas flame in a position where the same will readily be acted upon by the heat therefrom. In case itis desired to insert the curling iron from the opposite side from that shown in the drawings, or herein described, it will be seen that the head bard may be reversed or turned end for end and secured in its new position by loosening the screw f, rotating the head bar thereon, and again tightening said screw. From this construction and operation it is evident that the iron to be heated may be readily connected with or detached from the bracket and that said bracket may be turned to the rear of the burner or out of' the way, if desired.
It is obvious that a device of the character herein described will be exceedingly convenient and simple and that the same may be produced at a low cost of manufacture, in a neat and desirable form.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a bracket attachment for gas burners, the combination with the bracket body a having upper and lower portions 1) and c, a head and bracket portion as described, a spring strip h secured at one end upon said bar cl and extending over said seat g, the lower arm 0 having normally separated fingers c 0 and a clamping screw e adapted as described to move said fingers toward or away from each other, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
DAVID HEER.
