IMPROVED STIRRUP.
Specification forming part ofv Letters Patent No. 49,103, dated August 1, 1865.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN S. GOUJD, oi' Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Construction of a Saddle-Stirrup for Securing the Safety of the Rider; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', ref'- erence being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a joint in each side of the stirrup and a movable roller in the top so arranged that in no event can the foot of the rider be caught and retained therein.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, Iwill proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my stirrup in any ofthe known forms and from any suitable material; but to obviate the danger to the rider arising from` the fastening of the foot in caseof being thrown, or from any other accident, I make a joint in each side ofthe stirrup, about equidstant from the top and bottom, (shown atB in the accompanying drawing,) and I also attach in the top,
