ELLEN AGNES BLACK, OF BEOKWITH, cALIFoRNIA.
HOSE-SUPPORTE'R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 486,076, dated November 15, 1892.
Application filed July 8,1892.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLEN AGNES BLACK, of Beckwith, in the county of Plumas and State of California, have invented certain new and usefullmprove nents in Hose-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in hose-supporters for ladies and misses, and has for its object the production of a cheap, simple, and highlyefficlent supporter, whereby hose can be read- 11y and easily attached to the suspendingstrap and prevented from accidental displacement.
The invention consists of a hose-supporter suspended from a pair of corsets by a hook inserted through an eye in the corset and having at its lower end a pivoted two-part clasp, one of which parts has an outer doublehooked end of approximately-goose-neck shape, the other part being of U shape and designed to bind down over said hooked end and firmly hold that portion of the stocking inserted between the front and back portions of said double-hooked end, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is aview 1n perspective illustrating the applicat1on of my improved hose-supporter. Fig. 2 1s a view of the upper end of the strap and. its adj uncts, Fig. 3 is a view of the clasp opened. Fig. 4 shows the same closed.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the suspending-strap, the upper end of which is passed through a loop a of a plate a,having an aperture a This apertured plate is designed to engage a hook B, which consists of a single wire having a lower coiled end 1), against which normally bears the other end of said wire. This wire is inserted through an eyelet b in the corset S at the side thereof. The apertured plate a can be readily removed from the hook, or the latter can be easily removed from the corset. All accidental removal is prevented by the end of the wire hook B bearing against the coiled end of said mm.
C designates the improved clasp for holding Serial No. 439,422. (No model.)
the stocking. Itis composed of two parts or members d d, loosely secured to the looped end of strap A by a bail C1 The part (1 is made from one piece of wire and has its ends bent to hug the outer cross-bar of bail (F. This part cl is bent or curved inwardly back upon itself, as at (1 and then bent over and down, as at 01 its lower end (1 being in close proximity to the inwardly-curved portion and then bent outwardly, as at d". Thus the double-hooked end is of approximately-goose-neck shape. A portion of the stocking is inserted up between the inwardlycurved portion 01 and the downwardly-bent portion 61 The other part d consists of a single wire of approximately-U shape and having its ends loosely connected to bail 01 This U-shaped part is so formed that it will bind against the sides and the lower end of the part (1, and thus, after a portion of the stocking fabric has been inserted into the goose-neck hook, the part d is forced down and firmly binds the material entirely around the sides of said hook. The stocking is thereby firmly held by the loop, the thickness of the material adding greatly to the binding qualities. To release the stocking, it is only necessary for the operator to press upon the protruding portion of the hook and pull the U-shaped part (1 forward.
The advantages of my invention are apparent. It will be specially observed that a hosesupporter thus constructed is extremely simple and inexpensive and that by means thereof a stocking can be readily and firmly secured and easily detached when desired.
I claim as my invention 1. The herein-described improved hose-supporter, comprising the strap having the apertured plate atits upper end, meansforsuspending the same, and the clasp loosely connected to the lower end of said strap, composed of two parts or members, one of which has an outer double-hooked end of approximately-gooseneck shape, and the other is of U shape and designed to bind against said former part or member, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein-described improved hose-supporter, com prising the strap having the apertured plates loosely secured to its upper end, the hook having a coiled end and inserted through said apertured plate, the bail loosely connected to the lower end of saidstrap, the clasp pivotally connected to said bail and composed of two parts or members, one of which has an outer double-hooked end of approximately-goose-neck shape, and the other is of U shape and designed to bind against said former part or member, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this Specification in the presence of two subscmb- [0 ing witnesses.
ELLEN AGNES BLACK.
