COFFEE-URN FAUCET ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 464,091, dated December 1, 1891.
Application filed November 12, 1890. Serial No. 371,250. (No model.)
To whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY BORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Coffee-Urn Faucet Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and complete description.
My invention relates to coffee and tea urns, and particularly to the coupling which connects the faucet-tube with the urn proper, the object being to provide a simple and conveniently-adjustable coupling which will be .effective in preventing leakage, and which is adapted to receive the flame of the spiritlamp used for keeping the contents of the urn hot, and also to provide such an arrangement as will permit easy removal and cleaning by permitting access to the parts.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the faucet of the urn and the coupling. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of the coupling, and Fig. 3 is a plan View of the coupling.
In the drawings, the faucet is shown at A, and it may be of any suitable construction, it having an operating-lever A and a spout E for the discharge of the liquid, A flange F at the rear end of the faucet proper is adapted to be connected to the metallic part of the urn, (not shown,) and a tube I extends from the faucet to the coupling J, which is of special construction and connects with the earthen jar 60f the urn. The coupling has a short horizontal extension L, which receives the unthreaded end of the tube 1. The main part J has a flange it around its top, upon which rests the earthen jar 1', formed with a hole j in its bottom and a concave seat about said opening. The couplingsleeve K is threaded on its outside, and is screwed from the inside of the jar through the opening and into the tubular part J, threaded to receive it. A flange It on the upper inner end of the coupling K rests in the seat of the earthen jar and clamps the said jar between itself and the upper surface of the flange h. Apackinglis interposed between the flange k and the earthen jar and insures a liquid and steam tight joint and prevents leakage. flange is less than the diameter of the concave seat, so that when the coupling is screwed ,into place its upper surface is slightly below the level of the inside bottom surface of the urn, and thus the entire contents of the urn The diameter of the will be permitted to run off. Apolygonal opening m is formed in the upper surface of the coupling-sleeve K, and in adjusting or removing the coupling it is operated by a key having its end adapted to be inserted in the said opening. which receives the flame from the heatinglamp of the urn.
I claim as my invention- In combination, the urn, the tubular part J, having a right-angular part L for attaching the conduit-pipe, the coupling-sleeve extending from the interior of the urn and screw-threaded into the tubular part J and having a flange with interposed packing Z between the flange and the urn, the said flange being of less diameter than the concave seat, the said tubular part having a horizontal flange h on the under side of the urn to afford a support therefor, the said sleeve having a rectangular opening at its upper end to allow the sleeve to be operated from the interior of the urn, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY BORN. Witnesses:
W. H. BURRIDGE, WALTER A. BI DLE.
