Description
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEicE.
WVM. HENRY HALL, OF NEWv YORK, N. Y..
IIVIPROVED BOTTLEESTOPPER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, XVM. H. HALL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bottle-Stopper; and I do hereby declare that the following is Ia full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use thc same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a vertical central section of my invention when applied to a bottle or vial'. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view ofthe flanged disch arge-tube, which constitutes the subject-matter of my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts..
This invention consists in the use of a flanged ydischarge-tube which is secured in an ordinary stopple by screwing, or in any other suitable manner, and which is provided with a screw-cap, in such a manner that by removing the screw-cap,t`he contents of' the bottle or vial can be poured out in small or large quantities without removing the stopple, and the liquid is prevented from adhering to the upper edge of the discharge-tube and running over the sides of the bottle or vial, which it is liable to do in pouring liquid from the neck of the bottle or vial, and. by replacing the cap the bottle or vial is iirmly and hermetically closed.
A represents a bottle or vial which is stopped or closed by an ordinary corkor other stopple, B. This stopple is perforated through its longitudinal center with ahole,a,to receive the lower shank of my flanged discharge-tube C. This discharge-tube is cast of tin or other suitablematerial, and it is screwed on both ends above and below the flange, as clearly shown in Fig.`
2of the drawings. The lower shank or end of the tube screws into the stopple, and it is screwed down until the flange fit-s closely to the upper end of said stopple, as clearly shown is screwed down, presses tight upon the edge of-the discharge-tube and closes the same hermetically. The stopple is inserted into the neck ofthe bottle or vial to be closed until the flange of my dischargetube strikes the upper edge of said neck, and it is not removed until the bottle or vial is to be recharged. In orderto pourlont some of the contents of' the bottle or vial, the stopple is not removed, nothing being required but to take off the screwcap D. The liquid can now be poured out f with perfect accuracy. There is no danger of spilling, and the exterior of the bottle is easily kept clean, since the liquid is not liable t-o adhere to the edge of the discharge-tube and to run down over the outside of the bottle or vial, which it does when it is poured directly from'the neck.
By the use ot' my discharge-tube the stopples are saved, since they have not to be removed whenever itis desired to pour out solne of the contents ofthe bottle or vial. The bottles or vials are hermeticallysealed, and their contents are not liable to lose their strength, and the expense of my discharge-tube is trifling compared with its advantages.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The use of the flanged dischargetube C with screwcap D, in combination with an ordinary stopple, B, applied and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
NVM. HENRY HALL.
