Description

(No Model.) v f J. W. ALLEN.
n COMBINED BVAPORATOR, BAKER, AND VBNTILATOR FOR .OOOKNG sTOvEs.
N0.439,99O. l Patent-,BMWA 1890.
WITNESS/:"8:
ATTORNEY UNITED STATES' PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES WILLIAM ALLEN, OF EUREKA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS.
COMBINED EVAPORATOR, BAKER, AND VENTlLATOR FOR COOKING-STOVES. I
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,990, dated November 4, 1890.
` Application filed July 1', l1890. Serial No. 357,449. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES WILLIAM ALLEN, residing at Eureka Springs, in the county of Carroll and State of Arkansas, haveinv'ented anewandusefulCombinedEvaporator,Baker, and Ventilator for Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object to provide a vsuitable Ventilating device formed of' a box or drum adapted to be set over the stove and particularly pointed out in the claims, refer-y ence being had `to the accompanying drawings, in Whichv Figure 1 is a perspective View of myimprovement as applied for use. Fig. 2 is a lonn gitudinal section thereof; and Fig. 8 is a transversesection on the line 3 3, Fig. v2.
In the accompanying drawings, inA which the same reference marks indicate like parts in all the figures, A denotes a cooking-stove of the ordinary construction, upon the top of which is supported my improved Ventilating device, which consists of the box or drum B, of a size suliicient to lap over the front and the ends of the stove-top, whereby air-inlets b b are formed, and in which dampers b2 are provided over the inlets b b', whereby said inlets may be closed when desired, a damper b being also provided for the inlet b.
C indicates a'series-of telescopic pipesections joined with the upper end of the box B and connecting same with the chimney-flue, as shown. If desired, however, the pipes C may be joined with the smoke-pipe c of the stove by any suitable connection, and thereby avoid the necessity of cutting another opening in the flue. I prefer, however, to arrange Said pipes separate, as shown.
D indicates a damper arranged in the pipe C just above its connection with the box B,
The box B is formed With a series of ledges b5 b5, which serve as suitable supports for evaporating pans or frames, which can readily be slipped into position .through a suitable door E, hinged upon one end of the box, as shown.
It will be understood that the horizontal portion C of the pipe C is held from movei ment and that the telescopic sections end c3- low the upper joint C2. To the section C3, I
attach the ends of two ropes or chains F, which pass over pulleys ff and hang down within convenient roach of a person, suitable handholds or tassel; being formed on the ends of said ropes. By this arrangement it will be seen that when desired the operator by pulling upon the cords can raise the box up above the stove, (see dotted lines, Fig. 3,) so as to admit of ready access to the top of the same. Any suitable means may be provided for holding the said device in its .elevated position.
In connection with the above-described device I employ a baking-oven Gr, adap l'ed to be placed upon the stove over the openings, and which is formed with a series of divisions g g, so as to bake several tiers at one time. By this arrangement it will be seen that when the baking-oven is used that by letting down the box B over the same and closing the dampers all the heat from the top of the stove is concentrated within said box, thereby baking in a Inuch quicker time than usual. It will also readily appear that during ordinary cooking the box B may be let down over the several pots, and thereby carry all the odors directly into the chimney-iiue.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat or close said inlets, substantially as and for,
the purpose described.
2, In a combined ventilator and evaporator for cooking.stoves7 the combination, with the stove A, of the box B, formed on its lower connections between said opening and the front and end portions With outwardly-pro'- chimney-flue, all arranged substantially as ro jecting flanges b, whereby air-inlets b are and for the purposes described. l formed, damper b2, located in said box to regur 5 late the draft through such openings, a series JAMES WILLIAM ALLEN' of ledges b2, formed on the inside of the ends Witnesses:
of said box B, a discharge-opening formed in l L. H. PARK, the upper end of said box, and telescopic pipe- ED. D. RAY.
