Description

UNITE STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS M. DARRAH, OF \VHEELING, \VEST VIRGINIA.
MlNNOW-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,211, dated August 26, 1890.
Application filed April 21, 1890. Serial No. 348,951. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS M. DARRAH, a resident of \Vheeling, in the county of Ohio and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Minnow Buckets or Pails; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in minnow buckets or pails; and my invention consists in a novgel construction of minnow buckets or pails provided with a false bottom plained.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pail complete, showing the minnow-pail raised out of the main bucket or holder and the false bottom being raised. Fig. 2 is a section of the minnowbucket removed from the main bucket or holder. Fig. 3 is a plan or top view of the same.
The main or carrying bucket A is of any usual or preferred form, provided with a perforated-cover A hinged thereto, and which bucket is provided with a suitable bail in the usual manner.
B is the minnow-pail, consisting of the upper portion of a float B, having an opening through the center of the same having the top and bottom and inner and outer sides to form an air-space, and to which port-ion B is connected the minnow-receptacle C, which may be composed either of perforated sheet rated false bottom D, having connected thereto opening in the float B, for a purpose hereinafter explained.
E is a craw-pail, preferably composed of a double-walled conical case having a suitable perforated cover E hinged thereto, and which craw-pail is of such dimensions and hinged in such relation to the opening through the float B as to fit within the same, and by its hinged connection with the float portion being adapted to be raised out of and thrown back away from said opening to permit the false bottom to be raised for removing the minnows, or for other purposes, by means of the rods before referred to.
Attached to the float portion B is a bail or handle for facilitating the insertion and removal of the minnow-pail from the carryingbucket, orfor transportingthe minnow-bucket I from place to place after being removed from the main bucket.
By the construction and arrangement of parts described it will be seen that the minnows, frogs, or craws may all be carried in the same bucket or different compartments of the same, thus having the bait altogether in one bucket, and also that by hinging the crawbucket to the minnow-bucket and providing the same with a separate cover said crawbucket or receptacle may be thrown back out of the way to permit the false bottom to be raised and the'removal of any desired sized minnow.
The main bucket A is simply used when transportating the minnow bucket or pail to the fishing'grounds, where the minnow-pail can be removed therefrom and set in the water to permit a free circulation of water through it, the top or air-space B serving to float thesame in a manner that will be readily understood.
It is obvious that one central upright rod would serve to lift the false bottom; but I prefer to use two as giving more satisfactory results.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by-Letters Patent,
1. A minnow bucket or pail having the annular air-space or float with a central opening therein, in combination with a false bottom of a diameter to fit the pail, and having rods attachedthereto adapted to move through and be guided by the walls of the central opening in the air-space or float, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a minnow pail or bucket adapted to fit within a covered receptacle or outer bucket, of a craw-pail hinged to the minnow-pail and adapted to shut Within the same, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a minnow-pail, the annular air-space or float having the central opening therein,
and a craw bucket attached thereto and adapted to fit Within said opening, in combi- 5 nation with the false bottom provided with the rods, arranged and opening in the manner and substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereby affix my signature in pres- 2o ence of two witnesses.
THOMAS M. DARRAH. Witnesses:
JOHN H. CLARK, FRANCIS L. Home.
