LOUIS N. DE LONGE, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
ADJUSTABLE DRUM-CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 422,742, dated March 4. 1890.
Application filed October 11, 1889. Serial No. 326,688. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LQUIs N. DE LONGI J, of Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Drum-Clamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had, to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in adjustable drum-clamps; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a drum with my improved clamp in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the clamp detached. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the hook-shaped portion forming the outer end of the clamp; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of one of the hoops of a drum, showing the notches for the reception of the clamp.
In the drawings, 0 represents a rod having at one end a screw-thread c and at its other end a thumb-piece E, provided with the usual ears 6. This thumb-piece is rigidly secured to rod C.
The clamping-section B has an internal screw-thread (1, extending nearly its entire length and adapted to engage the threaded portion 0 of rod 0. A right-angled hookshaped projection b is formed integral with the main part of the clamping-section and at the opposite end to that in which the hole d is located. The portion of the clamp which is formed at right angles to the main part is preferably of rectangular shape, in order that it may fit in recesses a in the outer edges of hoops at. These recesses are not necessary to the use of the clamp but. I prefer to employ them.
The clamping-section B is similar to the,
one just described, with the exception that the bore extends its entire length and has no thgead, it being designed to fit loosely upon r0 The advantages of my invention will be readily understood. The clamp is placed upon the drum in such a manner that each of the sections B B engages one of the clampinghoops. The rod 0 is then tightened by means of thumb-piece E. The use of this thumbpiece obviates the necessity of carrying wrenches, &c., and thereby forms a clamp which is convenient at all times and can be adjusted as desired.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, witha drum the clamping-hoops of which are formed with recesses, of a clamp the clamping-sections of which are adapted to engage the said hoop and rest in the said recesses, and a thumb-screw for operating the said clamping-sections.
2. The combination, with a drum the clamping-hoops of which are formed with recesses, of a clamp the clamping-sections of which are adapted to engage said hoops and rest in said recesses, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS N. DE LONGE.
