UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES N. OLIVER AND CAMPBELL B. OLIVER, OF GENESEE, IDAHO TERRITORY.
FOOT-BOARD FOR HEADlNG-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,331, dated December 17, 1889.
Application filed May 31, 1889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we JAMES N. OLIVER and CAMPBELL B. OLIVER, citizens of the United States, residing at Genesee, in the county of .Latah and Territory of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Foot-Boards of Heading-Machines; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make an improvement in the foot-boards of header-harvesters, so that the driver may adjust the same with his foot, as hereinafter described.
Figure l of the drawings is a plan View of the foot-board, its attachments, and the beam or bar to which they are fastened. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 a vertical section on the dotted line a a: of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A is the foot-board of a harvester pivoted on the bearings B and supported by an arc bar O in the slot 01 of a bracket D, the parts 13 D being securely bolted or otherwise fastened to the bar E. In the uprights (Z d is loosely arranged a pin or bolt F, which passes through the bearings d d and into one of the arc-bar holes 0, so as to hold the foot-board. The bolt F is un- Serial No. 312.713. (No model.)
locked from the bar by means of its auxiliary plate E, which has on the inner end and at right angles thereto the flat head fiagainst which the heel of the drivers footis pressed to shoot the bolt back. As soon as the backpressure of his foot is removed the spiral spring G, located between the bolt-bearing d and the plate-head f, shoots the bolt into one of the arc-plate holes 0.
In using the harvester the driver stands on the foot-board A and has his hands employed so that on hillsides there is great difficulty in preventing his feet from slipping on the inclined foot-board. This, however, is entirely prevented by our adj ustable foot-board, which is easily operated bya backward movement of one of his feet.
hat we claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
