Description
No. 392,656. Patented Nov. 13, 1888.

lattice UNITED STATES PATENT JAMES G. \VILSON, OF NEYV YORK, N. Y.
ROLLING SHUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,656, dated November 13, 1888. Application filed June 8. 1888. Serial No. 276,447. (No model.)
To all, whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, JAMES G. WILsoN, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of the city of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rolling Shutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to metallic rolling shutters, such as are employed for closing storefronts, the gateways of sheds, Ste.
It consists, first, inarolling shutterprovided at its bottom with a lattice which affords sufficient means for observation from withoutwhen the shutter is down without diminishing its strength or security, and at the same time eonstitutes effective means for ventilation; and, secondly, in a peculiar combination of parts whereby such lattice is attached and the lower edge of the shutter is neatly and strongly finished, as hereinafter set forth.
A sheet of drawings accompanies this specification as part thereof.
Figure l. of the drawings represents a vertical section of a rolling shutter constructed according to this invention; and Fig. 2 is a portion of an elevation of the shutter, showing its peculiar construction.
Likeletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
The bottom portion or lower end of the shutter S is provided with a lattice-Work panel or L, extending across the same, as shown. The lattice-work may be of any design, so long as suitable open spaces for observation and ventilation are formed by it w1thout sacrificing security.
tion with the end bars, 0, form a neat and strong finish at the lower end of the shutter.
The bottom bar, 1), forms the lower edge ofthe shutter, and smooth lateral edges are formed by said end bars, 0, which also prevent any distortion of the lattice, and with the aid of said washers (I afford intermediate fastening points for the shortened lattice-bars at the ends of the lattice.
Having thus described my said improvement in rolling shutters, I claim as my invention and desire to patent under this specification- 1. A rolling shutter provided at its bottom with a lattice forming part of the shutter and affording openings for observation and ventilation, substantially as hereinbefore specified.
2. The combination, with the corrugated shutter-body S, of the lattice L, its top and bottom bars, (t Z), and its end bars, a, substantially as shown, for the purpose set forth.
JAS. G. WVILSON.
