KlNDLiNG- PATENT @Trina PACKAGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofiLettera Patent No. 390.610, dated October 2, 1B88.
Serial No. 255,136. (No specimens.)
To all whom it muy concern: f
Beit known that I, Cim unas C. Macarena', ofCincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have ifi1- vented a new and useful Kindling-Iackage, oi'/ 5 which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a novel article of merchandise consisting,r Ofa package Of certain cheap and easily-ignited materials, hereinafter specified.4 l
ln the accompanying draw-ings, Figure I is a perspective view, and Fig. ll is a transverse section, of my kindling-paekage; Fig. lll represents another form of inclOsing-tube.
1 is a rectangular sheet of straw-paper or other cheap and coarse paper or card-board, which having been folded into a tubular form, substantially as represented,is stuffed with any linely-dividcd orcomminntml vegetable liber, 2-such, for example, asshavings, chips, sawdust, chall', spent hopleavcs, tan-bark, or excelsioia7 lhe whole `is then saturated withcrude petroleum, and finally incloscd in a wrapper, 3, of paper that has beensteeped in or coated with 'pai-affine. ,y
"lhc tube of coarse paper may be of any preferred crosssection. For example, it maybe approximately sq uaxre, asin Fig. I[,or rOuniIl/ed, as in Fig. lll; lbutin cit-her event both ends are left Open, the contents of the tube bei-ng retained in place by means ofthe thin wrapper 3, the ends Of which, being,l twisted, readily ignite and convey the flame directly t0 the inflammable contcnts of the tube. Vheu'this wrapper' burns Off and the strong heat strikes '35 the pasteboard tube, the latter will grar'lually I am aware that it is not new to inclose invliammable material in pasteboard tubes alone, 4o
and I am also aware that itis 01d to inclose a like substance in a double paper wrapper having its ends twisted; but I wish it understood that these forms, separately or combined, do not form the v equivalent of my invention, for t5 itis readily seen that in the first named it is necessary to seal the edges of the paper formi ehandise- The open-ended tube composed of a sheet 6o .of pastehoard having its edges overlapping,
buthot secured, as described, stuffed Withintlammable vegetable ber, and the latter sat urated with petroleum, and a waxed-paper wrapper placed upon said tubev forholding it 65 together. having its ends twisted over the open ends of said tube, as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
