NITED STATES ATENT FICE' HAY-BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,555, dated March 20, 1888.
Application filed July 19, 1887. Serial No. 244.727.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a rear elevation; Fig. 2, a plan; Fig. 3, a lettered detail enlarged; and fig. 4 shows broken details enlarged from Referring to the letters of reference marked on the drawings, B is the body of the rack, and 0 c are the obliquely-angled sides of the rack. Fixed at suitable locations on the rack are loops or eyes 6, preferably a series of them on each side at the ends. and. if desired. at the center on each side. Theend ropes, a, are attached to these eyes, Figs. 1 and 4. The ropes a have a melal eye in the end, as at v, by which means the ropes are lengthened and shortened in accordance with the size'of the load A. The ends of these ropes are attached to any desired eye 6, in accordance with the As here shown, a rope a width of the load.
(No model.)
is employed at each end of the load; but they may be used at the sides, either conjointly with like ropes at the ends or at each of the four corners. as desired.
Centrally attached to the ropes ware pnl- 5 leys u D. D is a binding-rope-folded around these pulleys, one end being attached to pu1- leyu and the other end tied around the flanged head 1' of the pulley D. By drawing on this rope D the ropes a are drawn tight against the ends of the load, or against the sides and corners, as the case may he, and the rope D forms a top binder to the load. Such an apparatus will be found useful in hauling hay over rough land, and to market as well.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The rack having the eyes, the ropes provided with the eyes at the ends, the pulleys, one havinga flanged head and the binding-rope attached toone pulley at one end and the other end detachably fastened to the said flanged head, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES W. BAKER.
