SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent Nof3'79,433, dated March 13, 1888.

To all whmwit may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN WWVISE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adrian, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pens; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain improvements in that class of pens which are provided with detachable fountains or reservoirs; and it consists in certain novelty in the construction and arrangement of thesame, all of which I will now proceed to point out and describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of the under side of a pen provided with my invention; Fig. 2, a central longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 a perspective of the fountain or reser voir removed.

Referring to said drawings, A represents a pen of ordinary construction. Just back of the nibs of the pen the body is punched or struck up so as form lugs a a on the under side of said pen and on either side of its longitudinal center.

B represents the detachable fountain or reservoir. Said fountain or reservoirisprovided with a cup-shaped end, 0, and longitudinal (N 0 model.)

The fountain is attached to the pen by slipping the flanges b I) under the lugs a a, which securely hold the same in place, the point 0 coming under the central slit, a, between the nibs. Said fountain is supplied bysimply dipping the pen in the ink, which is then held between the fountain and pen, the point a guiding theink to the pen-pointand regulating the supply, causing it to flow in a steady and regular stream, and thus prevent blots.

When desired, the fountain or reservoir may be removed and cleaned. This is a great advantage, and adds greatly to life and efflciency of the pen.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the pen A, having lugs a a on its under side, with the detachable fountain or reservoir B, having the cup-shaped end 0 and flanges b I), engaging with thelugs a a of the pen, substantially as shown and described.
